Here we go on a Monday. It's gonna be a great one. Caleb Williams will return. We are live. We're in Chicago. It's the herd. Boy, did Aaron Rodgers take a beating wherever you may be. However you may be watching or listening. Is Travis Kelsey 26 years old again? Thanks for making us part of your day. Listen, Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City's had a lot of gifts. Great defenses. Great corners. Chris Jones in his prime. Andy Reid. Good old lines. At one point, Pro Bowl offensive tackles. He's had a lot of gifts. He's never had a bully at running back. He's never. Do you know since he came into the league, there's been a hundred instances. Of guys rushing for a thousand yards. A hundred. He's had none of them. In the last couple of years, because great quarterbacks get paid.
When they get paid, there's holes in the roster. And and Kansas City didn't have any bigger hole than running back. Mahomes, the last couple of years, has been a life preserver, and this boat was sinking offensively. Efficiency went downhill. In the peak years when they won three Super Bowls, 2019 to 2024, they did almost everything well. I mean, they could go over the top. Kelsey was in his prime. Spags defense was Hammond. They had great corners. They were twenty-second and rushing. He's never had this. And and here's the thing. Kenneth Walker gives you two things. Number one, not only does he give you a toughness and physicality, but he's a home run threat. They've never had that. It's like now, now they have a diversity of offense.
It's like when LeBron developed the three-point shot. Oh, wait, Kansas City can do that too? And I think you're noticing this. You used to be able the last couple of years to cheat on Travis Kelsey. Travis Kelsey never felt open the last two to three years. He had nine catches last night, over a hundred yards the first two weeks of the season. You can't cheat on Kansas City's offense. So Kelsey looks open. So now you have this diversity.
How did the Chiefs’ new rushing attack change their offense early in the season?
They can go over the top. It's a change up. They have a new identity. I mean, Kansas City had a very distinct identity for most of this dynasty. One, Spaggs got the most possible out of his defense. Defensive talent. Even if they had to move off some guys because of Mahomes salary, and offensively, they were explosive. They could run past you, they couldn't run through you. That's changed. They are now a physical run first team. And the and the Patriots did this for years. When Brady came into the league, it was defense-winning Super Bowls. The Randy Mosh years they got explosive. They were very tight end centric for a while with Gronk and the late Aaron Hernandez. Brady's last Super Bowl in New England. England, they were a run team.
That was a run team, 15 yards, fourth and rush touchdowns. So New England kept reinventing itself on both sides of the ball. You always got good special teams and the Belichick super smart defense, but Brady had the over-the-top years, the tight end years, the conservative early years, and then the running team and and Edelman late years. So this is what Kansas City's doing as a person, as a company, as a team. You gotta keep Keep reinventing yourself. Like Sean McVay's like, I like Jared Goff. Uh we got to a Super Bowl. We got it, we gotta get more powerful at quarterback. We reinvented their offense. I mean, remember a couple years ago when the when the when the Rams went to Seattle to open against Pete Carroll, I think was still there, and they literally had an entirely new offense.
You gotta keep doing this. So and I and I think one of the big beneficiaries here is Travis Kelsey. He looks like he's back in his prime. You can't cheat anymore.
