This is an iHeart Podcast. Guaranteed human. It's that time to put on your jersey and wave your flag, whoever you root for.
Shannon Sharpe 0:11
Why do I watch the World Cup? That's like asking me, why do I breathe? and it's beautiful. The guys are young and cute and fit. It's not just a game. It's your culture. I like watching it with my dad. It's a connecting force.
Colin Cowherd 0:26
From Futuro Studios, I'm Fernanda Echavarri, and this is American Football, a show about soccer culture in the U.S.

Unknown 0:54
We're digging into the biggest surprises of the season. And I'm looking back on some of my greatest playoff moments.
Colin Cowherd 0:59
If we didn't talk ever again, I was crying. You just understood. That's how personal it got. Wow.
Bobby Bones 1:04
Then after that game seven, Mark keep coming to me. He's like, you know, I love you, dog. You know, it's all love. This was just playoffs.
Unknown 1:10
This was just basketball.
Mick Hunt 1:12
So listen to Point Game on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Thanks for listening to the Herd Podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday on Fox Sports Radio and noon to 3 Eastern, 9 a.m. to noon Pacific. Find your local station for the Herd at foxsportsradio.com or stream us live every day on the iHeartRadio app by searching Fox Sports Radio or FSR. Now let's get this party started. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. World Cup, every single country's got a match in. We've watched them all. The United States, Germany, Argentina, and England look really strong. France, Spain, Portugal, watching the aging of Cristiano Ronaldo. He kind of fell flat yesterday. So we've been doing this at the top of our two. Everybody's played a match. There have been, as of five minutes ago, 76 goals scored so far at the World Cup.
Colin Cowherd 2:22
So here is our Super Six, the six best goals so far at the Cup. Number six.
Unknown 2:33
Gio Reyna. Gio Reyna!
Colin Cowherd 2:42
Gio Reyna outside of the booth for Bost, bends it around heel. Just a sensational goal from Gio Reyna. Number five.
Unknown 2:56
And Shpain Azurlaev coming across to cover from the left. And still they come again. Luis Diaz on finally. And it's Daniel Munoz. And Colombia are up and running.
Mick Hunt 3:12
Number four. Victor Lindelof taking room one, trying to find Isak. He might be able to get a touch here. Parried away initially. It's Victor Jokeresen. It's cleared off the line.
Unknown 3:22
Still a chance available here for Sweden.
Mick Hunt 3:26
And it's in. What a strike. And what a start for the Swedes. And it's Yasin Ayari.
Unknown 3:31
What a big moment for the man from Brighton.
Mick Hunt 3:34
But this is just quality. An absolute peach of a finish from Yasin Ayari.
Colin Cowherd 3:39
Number three. Balogun, can he get inside? Still Balogun! Flo Balogun! Just a beauty for a second of the game. Flo Balogun, U.S. 3-0 in the first half. So dominant. Excellent stop.
Mick Hunt 4:03
Number two.
Colin Cowherd 4:08
Well, Mbappe has another one! 3-1. Some response from France. What a hit. Mbappe knows exactly what he wants to do when he turns here. And what a fantastic goal. Number one. Right up the gut. What a ball that is. Messi on the turn.
Unknown 4:29
Options either side.
Colin Cowherd 4:30
Lean on Messi!
Unknown 4:31
There's your goal! There's more history!
Colin Cowherd 4:35
There's the magic man again! Find Messi there, running at your back line. Good luck! Cuts onto the left foot, and he picks out that top corner. And now Messi's on the board. Boy, what a spectacular opening week of the World Cup. And he's a former NBA writer. My favorite podcaster out there, Ethan Strauss, House of Strauss, got his Substack. Fascinating articles this week.

How is the 2026 World Cup changing soccer’s popularity in the United States?

Colin Cowherd 5:01
All right. So there's going to be, and this is my entire life, there's been people that won't invest in it. They'll mock it. They'll roll their eyes. This feels different. The first half against Paraguay felt different. Does it feel like to you... that we've made that soccer's making more of a leap into the mainstream? I think it feels bigger than big right now. You guys must be delighted about it over at Fox. The comparison point that I looked at was that in 1994, when the World Cup was in the United States, and back then we didn't like soccer much, but there was a monoculture and we were going to watch whatever was on TV.
