What is a situationship and how do people define it?

Ben Ilubuchi 0:00
I don't think anyone's like, okay, now time to get into my situation-ship.
Dee Salmon 0:03
You're almost mourning what could have been and there's all those like, what ifs and why didn't it get to a relationship? But this is the thing. This is where the gaslighting comes in.
Luca (caller) 0:13
She said it's like when you get a new toy and you're just bored of the old one.
Ben Ilubuchi 0:16
I think I am answering for the crimes of the men around me or something. There's something karmic going on.
Dee Salmon 0:21
There is a special place in hell? Maybe not hell.
Ben Ilubuchi 0:25
No hell.
Dee Salmon 0:25
Maybe jail.
Ben Ilubuchi 0:26
I reckon the number is like almost 100%.
Dee Salmon 0:28
A hundred.
Ben Ilubuchi 0:30
A hundred percent. A hundred percent.
Dee Salmon 0:41
Hi, I'm Dee Salmon and unfortunately Melbourne's winter has got me good and I've gone down with a cold. If you're wondering why my voice is all cooked and if you're watching as well on Spotify or on YouTube and you're wondering why I have a wad of toilet paper next to me. I couldn't find any tissues. Yeah, things are dire here at the ABC at the moment. But Pip is still away. I actually have been DMing her. She's living her best life. She sent me a photo of Mr Darcy. She's somewhere in Scotland and said, babe, you would not believe. She saw a first edition of Pride and Prejudice. So very, very jealous. But yeah, she's going to be away for the next couple of weeks, which is really exciting for you to meet someone new joining on the hookup as a co-host.
Dee Salmon 1:22
And today I'd love to introduce you to Ben.
Ben Ilubuchi 1:25
Thank you so much for having me, Dee. My name is Ben Ilobucci. I am one third of The Grill podcast on the ABC. Dee was kind enough to guest on our show, so I decided it'd be nice for me to do the same.
Dee Salmon 1:39
Explain how The Grill works for anyone who doesn't know.
Ben Ilubuchi 1:42
Okay, so the way that The Grill works is that every week, me and my two other co-hosts, we bring in something that has been irritating us. Either recently or just like in general, we each have our time in the sun to explain it, to discuss it. And then at the end we sort of let it go. Yeah. So it's sort of based on us having bug bears or just like champagne problems.
Dee Salmon 2:02
Yeah. Like beef, right?
Ben Ilubuchi 2:03
You have beef with something. Beef.
Dee Salmon 2:05
And so your beef when I jumped on your pod was with ghosting and how people don't do it properly. So go listen to that episode. But I knew straight away as soon as I left that podcast, I was like, you'd be great on the hookup.
Luca (caller) 2:16
Thank you.
Dee Salmon 2:16
You'd be so good on the hookup. I love the stuff you're saying about ghosting, which is why I thought you were the perfect co-host to join us today to talk about situationships. Yeah. That's what we're going to get into in this ep. And if you are new, we do talk about love, sex, dating, relationships. And we have an Instagram, at Triple J The Hookup. And this is where you send us your dilemmas, the stuff you're going through. And we pick it apart for about 40 minutes from every single possible angle that we could possibly think of. And that's what we're going to do today. We got this DM from Susie who said, I've been seeing someone and it's been going really well. We've been hanging out nonstop. It feels like we're basically together.
Dee Salmon 2:52
Well, at least that's what I thought until they slept with someone else. They said they've done nothing wrong because we've had chats about how we were casual, but everything we've been doing has not been casual at all. We've even discussed our feelings for each other at length. So I thought that it was just a given that we were exclusive. Who's in the wrong here? Very, very big question. And I think very relatable, which I'm excited to unpack. So yeah, in this episode, we're going to find out what exactly is a situation ship because it sounds like poor Suze is in one. How many people have been in them? Like how common are they? We're going to hear your stories, a lot of horror stories, if that's triggering to you.
Dee Salmon 3:33
um just a bit of a warning you're gonna hear some of the worst situationship stories and we're gonna talk about whether you love them or you hate them because some people love them we're also gonna find out why we end up in them and whether or not we owe each other exclusivity without having the conversation right like if you're acting like you're in a relationship but you haven't had the conversation like what do we owe each other all right let's get into it
