AFC South has not won a game. All right, so let's talk about this game, and there's so many different ways to go. It was a day, Fred, in which it seemed that everything went right. Takeaways for the Jaguars, touchdowns. How about Jacoby Myers, Brenton Strange, both getting involved in the bowl game a lot earlier? How about Travis Hunter making a play in the end zone to thwart a drive at the end of the first half that might have been as important a play as you'd find?
Yeah, I just think, you know, when you look at how this game turned out this week, comparing it to last week's game, you look at it, it starts in the trenches. It goes to, you know, the offensive line, how well they protected for Trevor today, gave him an opportunity.
How did the Jaguars dominate the Patriots on the line of scrimmage and in the trenches?
There were some pressures here and there. But last week on 31 dropbacks, he was pressured 11 times at a 35% clip. Today was completely different. Plus, they were able to run the ball, sustain some drives, make some big third down conversions, which amounted to a better scoring day today. And on the flip side, The defense had three pressures last week on 31, dropped back to that 10%. Today they had three sacks along with a ton of pressures. So the game was won in the trenches, and the playmakers on the back end made the plays when they needed to.
You know, even though the Jags didn't have a lot of quarterback hits, only had two sacks today, I got to give some credit to the coverage down the field, Fred, because Drake May had some time on some plays and was looking, looking, looking, and kind of those intentional, unintentional throwaways. You know, he was throwing it two yards over guys' heads because he had nobody open.
Yeah, and Mike, you're right. It goes to the guys on the back end with the credit, but they played a lot more aggressive. There were some holding calls in there, here and there, but they played smart. They weren't out of sync, so they played assignment football.
