Hi, Caitlin, Sarah, and Jan. I absolutely love your podcast. I've sent messages before telling you how highly I think of all of you. I actually just finished reading The Calamity Club by Catherine Socket, the author of The Help, and a question came to mind while I was reading it, and I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts. And I know how Thortis is a champion of women's rights. So Jan, I know you two have, I'm sure, incredible conversations. I haven't had a women's studies lecture or course since I was in university, and that was like 20 years ago. I need some women, intelligent like you three, to give me your thoughts on the question I had after reading The Calamity Club. In these situations, it could be argued that women hold a certain kind of power.
Yet, prostitution is criminalized, and historically, many of the laws regulating or punishing sex work have been created by men, who are often the ones seeking out these services. What do you think explains this contradiction? Why are men so harsh to women, especially since, now not all mothers... But I would say the majority of mothers and Caitlin and I, we both have little Williams that we love and care for. And we spend so much time and love and energy raising these men who then shame us. And I don't understand. I really don't understand what happens. So I'd love to hear your intelligent thoughts on this topic. Anyway. Your podcasts are amazing. Wow. Okay. Well, obviously, Sarah, this is a really, really huge question. It has been asked for hundreds, if not thousands of years by women all over the planet. Why is there such a disparity? Why is there shame and judgment surrounding sex, sexuality, sex workers, women? It's an age-old problem. I certainly can't sit before you here and even try to solve that. All I can tell you is that the patriarchy... is so ingrained in men. There's that whole manosphere thing. There's a very interesting documentary that you should watch on Netflix. However difficult it is to get through, I think it will give you a glimpse into some of the minds of the men that are involved in these movements. But yeah, it's It's like a lot of like Republican men in the United States.
And this isn't solely applicable to the men in the United States, for sure.
