Why did the Dolphins bench Tua Tagovailoa for Quinn Ewers?

I think Quinn gives this team the best chance to win. Our focus is obviously to win the next three games, but in particular, like I tell the players, we are focused on beating the Bengals, so that was the motivation. Zach will be backing them up, and Tua will be the emergency third.
Joe Rose 0:23
Wow. There you have it. And 100% joins me this morning, and he was right on the money. Dave Hyde from the Sun-Sentinel. And by the way, later on, Kim Bocamp will be in. He's got some stuff he's doing, and we'll go around the NFL later on with Brian Baldinger as well with just a great week. I'll tell you what, the NFL, when they put these schedules together, before we get back to all the good stuff, when they put this thing together, Dave, they have no idea what it's going to look like late in the year. And they literally, the last, this is the third week in a row, It's looked like the playoffs has started with these matchups. This tonight, what they have tonight. Great one tonight. And we have nobody in the party here, but the Rams at Seattle, both teams, 11-3 in the same division.
Joe Rose 1:14
Probably the two best teams in the NFC.
Although I was reading if Seattle wins tonight and San Francisco wins out, San Francisco, without Boza, without their middle linebacker out, they will not only win the NFC West, they will be the number one seed in the conference. They're an amazing story.
Joe Rose 1:35
So that division is the best in football right now. That's amazing what they're doing. By the way, he has done a great job out in San Francisco. Coach of the year stuff. So we got all that, and then you look Tampa Bay at Carolina, both 7-7, playing for the NFC South. I mean, this just goes on and on with all these great games coming up, and so we'll have that later on in the show. So you just came out, my man, and first of all, you were right. It was 100%. It was a no-brainer. Thought out very well by you what Mike had said the day before. And being out there, and by the way, you were there, it seemed like, for about seven hours yesterday. Blame seven years of Dolphins dysfunction, not Tua, for failure.
Yeah, I mean, look, we're done with Tua. You look back, now you put the obituary together. We are done with him, by the way. I know it was a nice follow-up, but... No, he's done. He's the third guy. He will play. Take the rest of the year off. Yeah, and as an aside to that, the last thing they want him to do is get hurt because then they're on the hook for more money, the way it works with injury compensation. But... So you wrap up seven years going back to the tank year of Tua, and it is one bad decision by the Dolphins hierarchy after another. Now, I know Chris isn't here. Chris Greer, not firing. They put him in charge, though, of the two biggest drafts in history of the franchise. Go ahead. And that gets to the dysfunctional.
Why are you putting Chris Greer in charge of this? He's already passed on Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson. He's shown no ability to draft a quarterback. And there's only a few people, to be fair, you could look at their portfolio and say they really know how to judge quarterback. It's a hard position to judge. I think GMs are scared to death of it. Yes. I think he was scared to death.
Joe Rose 3:26
No basketballs whatsoever to go up and get Buffalo Bills when Josh Allen's our guy. I don't care that he's a 55% completion guy. I'm watching him. I'm watching who he's throwing to. I'm watching his makeup. And that dude's got something that's going to be real special besides just the big arm that he's had his whole life.
Lamar Jackson was the best player in college football. I mean, forget winning the Heisman. He was the most dynamic player. And the Dolphins, look, they were scared of Josh Allen's accuracy. They were scared of Lamar Jackson. We're going to have to build the whole offense around him. Right. What did they do with Tua? What did they do with Tua? They had to reconstruct their offense to fit his game. I mean, you always form a little of the offense around a quarterback, but... So going back another year, then they put Chris in charge.
