What is the Key Ideas in the Philosophy of Mind class and how can I enroll?
Hey all, enrollment is now open for my Key Ideas in the Philosophy of Mind class. It is an online class running approximately every other week from the very end of August to mid-December. We'll be starting out with some Aristotle and Descartes and then getting right to those modern figures writing about the relationship between the mind and the brain. whether and how philosophers can study consciousness and whether computers could have minds or be conscious.
Which philosophers and texts are covered, from Aristotle and Descartes to modern figures like Turing and Chalmers?
So we'll read some Alan Turing, Thomas Nagel, Dan Dennett, David Chalmers, John Searle, Hillary Putnam, folks like that. We're very grateful that you've been listening to the Partially Examined Life, but the people that have taken my classes often more than once, those people will be able to tell you that you actually reading the material and discussing it, much, much better way to learn than merely listening passively. There are no grades. There are no essays to write. You prep as much or as little as you want.
What are the course format, grading policy, and pricing (including discounts and affordability)?
It is very affordable and space permitting. I can offer discounts to a few folks. And since the sessions are recorded, you get to hear what the other sessions are doing. And if there's a particular week or several weeks that you just don't have time to prepare or to attend, you can experience it on your own schedule just via the recording. Whatever your skill level, whether you are new to philosophy or you've been reading this stuff for years, please consider signing up.
How can I select a session time or purchase recordings to fit my schedule and skill level?
Take a look at partiallyexaminedlife.com slash class to see if the sessions I have scheduled work for you, or there's also an option to just purchase the recordings, or I might offer an additional session to accommodate your schedule. You have to let me know though. Space is limited and you're going to want to get started reading Aristotle right away. So do not wait. Go to partiallyexaminedlife.com slash class to read about it and then click on that link to enroll. Thanks.
