And looking at the Independent, going to the front pages, first of all, there's a big Ireland Thinks poll inside. Mid-income earners are paying too much tax, according to voters, and a farewell to the bard of Ballymun, much about Glenn Hansard in the papers.
You've been going through them in some detail, Gabby. What have you got?
Yes, so starting off with, I think, Kinahan, he's looking at deportation, of course. We are expecting Daniel Kinahan to be extradited from the prison that he's in, Dubai. But some of the other members of the Kinahan clan also are seeming to be in danger because their visas have expired. A very simple thing to, I suppose, be chased after. So John Mooney reports that it's Christy Kinahan Sr. 's residency visa expired. to stay in dubai expired in april um and then also it's also expired for ian dixon who's viewed to be one of the cartel's most trusted lieutenants and there's an expert speaking in the piece and they're saying it's rory macomb who's a former deputy director of the national crime agency saying it's preposterous to suggest that the uae did not know the visa status of the cartel members in dubai
And he's saying this raises questions about whether there are financial benefits to individuals in the UAE government, law enforcement, which is holding them back from making arrests and deporting them. That's obviously he's speculating there.
And once, of course, that becomes public knowledge and the UAE authorities are maybe embarrassed by this, they may decide to take action. But where would these people go? I mean, there was talk before, you might remember, of Iran. That really is not a starter, I think, in the current climate.
No, and I think Russia was also another country that was being considered by them too, but it seems that they have gotten too comfortable in Dubai, and of course we know that there's sanctions out against them, the Irish government is coming for Daniel Kinahan, and certainly I would say his dad, and the person that is seen to be the incoming leader of the cartel, Ian Dixon, that they're in trouble as well, and they probably are thinking, do you know what, we're going to maybe stay here as long as we can, because where do you go, and how do you get there? Look, I think it's one to see. And this story is really going to develop because, of course, we're going to have Daniel Kinahan be extradited.
He's coming back to Ireland in the mail on Sunday. As you were reading out there, speculation that perhaps it could even be the case. This is what the authorities are absolutely hoping does not happen. But that you have Donald Trump, the US president, coming in at the same time as Daniel Kinahan into Ireland.
And he coming in the latter on the comfort of the government jet while Trump comes in either on the original Air Force One or the Qatari refurb diversion.
Yeah, probably the Air Force One. That's how Joe Biden got here when he came here before. Now, the quote in the Mail on Sunday from Debbie McCann's story is, quote, it would kill the Justice Minister if Kinahan returns in government jet. But there's a question of logistics there. I mean, this is such a high security operation.
