Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?

8.502 - 37.615 Nick Farabaugh

Nick Farabaugh is still at the Combine. He's going to close the place. He's going to be there for last call. The final vertical leap. One last one as the lights go out. Nick Farabaugh will be there. He's on the Sullivan Super Service fan hotline. Pittsburgh's trusted plumbing and HVAC provider for over 50 years. Breaking news as we speak. Cowboys have placed the franchise tag on George Pickens.

37.595 - 48.971 Nick Farabaugh

That could lead to a long-term deal that could just stay in place at $28 million. And maybe that even turns into a disaster, but he had a hell of a year. What do you make of this story, Nick?

0

50.753 - 69.934 Joe

Yeah, you know, he did have one heck of a year. There's no doubt about that. Talent was never the issue. It was always about, can you get the guy to lock in and be mature? And I think there are still issues with that. You know about the Vegas casino incident. You certainly know that he was late to meetings and everything like that, from what I've heard.

0

70.234 - 86.018 Joe

A lot of the stuff he did in Pittsburgh, he's still doing in Dallas. I think Jerry Jones is a little bit more willing to tolerate it. And when you play like he did, and he was happy there, it's a little bit easier to tolerate. I mean, let's be real here. The Steelers did not maximize him in their scheme. They certainly didn't maximize him with quarterback play.

0

86.039 - 107.034 Joe

They did not have a Dak Prescott around. They did not have a C.D. Lamb around to compliment him. So, He was in a beautiful, kind of perfect environment for him to just explode. I will say this, Joe, and this is kind of something that I continue to find interesting this week as I talk to people. The Steelers never got an offer higher than a third-round pick for the Cowboys or anyone else.

Chapter 2: What news did Nick Farabaugh share about George Pickens?

107.074 - 126.599 Joe

In fact, many teams wouldn't be willing to trade more than a sixth or a seventh-round pick. I thought that was fairly interesting hearing that. So, you know, around the league, there was a kind of perception about George Pickens last year that, maybe he couldn't lock in and maybe he couldn't be a guy that explodes because he would get in his own way. And the Cowboys took that chance.

126.7 - 133.077 Joe

And listen, they reaped the benefits of that. He had the best year of his career and he was one of the best wide receivers in all of football. So good on their gamble.

0

134.761 - 157.073 Nick Farabaugh

And then we move on to Ty Simpson, who is making news today. He talked, told everybody he's ready to show NFL talent evaluators that he's a franchise quarterback. Says the Alabama locker room is as close to an NFL locker room as you can get, which I guess, as Sean said here, they must have more than five toilets in that locker room. Yes, Nick?

0

157.373 - 158.554 Joe

Yeah, they probably do.

0

159.335 - 175.292 Nick Farabaugh

In the meantime, the Steelers have formally met with Ty Simpson. So say what we want, he's gotten into the room with them. He's had an interview. Where is this headed, do you think?

176.814 - 199.474 Joe

So I heard Ty Simpson's interview was also particularly impressive, which I think speaks to the Steelers liking him. But I don't think they love him. And what I mean by that is, I don't think he's going to be a pick at 21. I don't think that's where this is heading. I think this is heading to a, if he falls, we would like to take a shot on him. So second, third round.

199.755 - 219.561 Joe

He's not getting to the third, but if he falls to the second, would you maybe move up for him? Would you maybe even move up into the back half of the first? I mean, there's questions to that. But I've gotten this vibe that they like him, but they're just not enthralled enough to take him at 21. There are some prospects. I know that they love, that I think are firmly in play at 21.

221.063 - 241.533 Joe

But I just don't think Ty Simpson is. And there's a few limitations there. You know, the durability I've talked about, that's come up multiple times. The tape at the end of the season, I mean, he just fell off, man, in significant fashion from the mental processing standpoint, from winning inside the pocket, from managing the pocket. There was a lot that really... was a red flag.

241.573 - 257.612 Joe

But I do think the Steelers were impressed by his work on the board. I think that they thought he was very smart when given situational calls within that meeting. I think he did a very nice job. And I think they're interested in him at their own value. But I don't think that value was the 21st overall pick from what I'm hearing.

Chapter 3: Why was Ty Simpson's interview significant for the Steelers?

480.27 - 495.433 Joe

You know, they've had a few interviews with defensive tackles and offensive guards. But it's mostly been wide receivers and corners. I think if you do – so they get 45 formal interviews. And I'm not, you know, one to just go into the formal interviews and say everything matters. You know, it's one interview.

0

495.835 - 518.866 Joe

But it's a finite resource, and that means there's some meticulous meaning behind these. They have met with, I believe I've counted so far, 13 wide receivers. So 13 of their 45 formal visits have been with wide receivers. And then I believe another 9 or 10 corners. So, I mean, you're talking 23, 24 of those formals used up, and then a few more safeties.

0

519.367 - 540.575 Joe

So when we're talking about wide receiver, corner, and safety, those three positions have been a focus. This is going to be a perimeter draft, I think, for the Steelers. They've been so trench-focused recently that I think we're going to start to see them finally invest around that and go wide receiver, corner. I think the wide receiver interest is heavier than ever.

0

541.015 - 559.404 Joe

And I'll tell you what, one guy that's sticking out above the crowd from what I'm hearing in terms of who the Steelers like is Texas A&M's Casey Concepcion, but they're not alone in that. I think everyone's kind of thinking right now Concepcion's a lock to be there 21, and the Steelers would take him, they'd be kind of the first team that would take him on the board.

0

559.965 - 579.549 Joe

I think he has a shot to go higher than that. He's going to blow up this combine tomorrow. I really think that. That's what I've heard. A lot of people expect him to have a huge combine. And so Casey Concepcion's killed the interview process. His form with the Steelers was really impressive. I think they really like his route running ability. Now here's the thing.

580.21 - 595.906 Joe

People are going to hate this in Pittsburgh if they do select Casey Concepcion. He is a case of the dropsy. He had seven drops this past year, and his hands are a little suspect in that regard. But he runs routes. He gets open. He wins after the catch. Sound like a certain receiver the Steelers traded two years ago, right?

596.106 - 596.286 Unknown

Yeah.

596.306 - 604.997 Joe

And that's kind of the comparison a little bit. Deontay Johnson. It's not too dissimilar from a Deontay Johnson. Zay Flowers is another name I've heard mentioned.

605.017 - 607.12 Nick Farabaugh

He doesn't run backwards, does he, this guy?

Chapter 4: What are the Steelers' plans regarding the tackle position in the draft?

2017.182 - 2029.365 Unknown

PFF's not a fan of him, though. They aren't? From this last season or in general? They always go Miles Garrett over him no matter what, right? They do? PFF? Yeah, they always go Garrett over Watt.

0

2029.385 - 2048.191 Nick Farabaugh

Yeah, based on pass rush win rate, I guess. That's right. That's the most important stat out there. I have other quiz questions for you, just because now I'm bored and I want to do something else. Are you ready for this? Mm-hmm. Wrong. You aren't ready for this, but here it comes. Your favorite team is the 49ers. That's right.

0

2048.832 - 2071.865 Nick Farabaugh

We're going to do San Francisco 49ers career leaders with Sean Don't Call Me Seth Miners. Here we go. All right. Jerry Rice is actually correct. Thank you. What are they doing here? Career leaders in past touchdowns. Who is it? Meaning how many touchdowns you've thrown? Yes. Joe Montana. Wrong. Steve Young.

0

2072.125 - 2072.486 Unknown

Really?

0

2072.666 - 2075.811 Nick Farabaugh

No, it is Joe Montana with 244.

2075.943 - 2077.044 Unknown

What are you doing to me here, Joe?

2077.145 - 2079.187 Nick Farabaugh

Who's the career leader in interceptions?

2079.888 - 2087.919 Unknown

Most interceptions thrown. I am inclined to say Joe Montana for that as well.

2088.3 - 2113.527 Nick Farabaugh

John Brody with 224. Guess who's second? If you guess who's second. YA Tittle. Oh, my God. I was going to say, if you guess who's second, I'll take you to a steak dinner. And you did before I could make the offer. You could take me to fast food instead, maybe. YA Tittle with 134. Who would have thunk it? Tiddlywinks. Who's the career leader for the 49ers in rushing touchdowns?
