Chapter 1: What are the initial thoughts on the Senior Bowl and its significance?
I hope everybody's on YouTube watching Joe right now with the air guitar. Joe, I feel like you're a lot better with the acoustic, I think.
I like this a lot, though. I've heard you play the acoustic. Yeah, I might be playing in a coffee shop near you soon. Will you and Sarah come out and watch me? Yeah, just let me know when. Intern Dom keeps promising he will, and then he blows me off at the last second. I'll tell you, there's one over in... Not Bloomfield. Where is Seton LaSalle, that direction?
What's the name of that little town? What, like Dormont? Right next to Dormont, yes. What's the name of the town where Seton LaSalle is, Limits? You talking about Castle Shannon? No. My daughter's been going to school there for five years, and I can't even think of the name. Five years?
Keystone Oaks is right across the street. Yes. Is she a super senior? What's that little town?
You know what I mean, limits. No, she's not a super senior. And now it's going to, it begins with a B. Check the text line. Someone will tell you. Brookline? Yeah, it is Brookline. Legendary part of town. Yes. All right. Well, we're sort of looking at the next phase of the Steelers, too. We're looking ahead to the draft. Are they going to draft a quarterback?
Are they going to draft a receiver, a corner? What are they going to do? Alan Saunders from Pittsburgh Sports Now is at the Senior Bowl, and he's been scouting players. Alan, we appreciate you coming on. How are you? I'm good, Joe. How are you? I've never been better, and I appreciate the inquiry. Tell me, what has been the biggest Steeler-related story down there this week?
I think it's everything that's happening in Pittsburgh. I mean, the Mike McCarthy press conference and then quickly going into all these coaching hires. You know, I think it was really hard without having an idea of any of the coaching staff to really envision players in a Steelers scheme. But I think, you know, you hear Mike McCarthy say, oh, we're going to keep the 3-4 defense.
And then he hires Patrick Graham. And now I can kind of say, okay, this is going to be the same scheme mostly. It'll be familiar alignments. Now you can start to look at some of these guys and say, oh, okay, now this player looks like a Steelers guy. And so I think it was really hard. I think it's still really ā probably tough on offense, but you know what Mike McCarthy's going to do.
But now that we kind of got the defensive scheme figured out, now we can really look and start to dig into these players in a more significant way.

Chapter 2: How is the Steelers' defensive scheme expected to change with the new coaching staff?
if you were able to notice, was there a particular group of players that he had his eye on more than others?
I don't think it will give you any surprise to know that Andy Weidel spent most of his time watching the linemen. That is who Andy Weidel is. They could be drafting 11 wide receivers and a quarterback with their 12 picks, and I think he still would have been looking at the linemen There are other guys in the front office there as well, and, of course, all the scouts.
But, yeah, Andy heading things up in Mobile. Definitely very ā almost everyone I talked to over the week said, man, it's weird without Mike Tomlin here. Not just from a Steelers perspective, but from a Senior Bowl perspective. I mean, he was a big part of this event, the way he embraced it. Not every head coach is like that. Most of them aren't. And it definitely makes my job a little tougher.
Mike didn't make it much of a secret as to who he was looking at and who he was interested in during this process. We've got to do a little more digging now, I think.
Alan Saunders, he is live from the Senior Bowl down in Mobile. So who are the athletes at positions of need who have jumped off the page for you? A couple of them.
I think this is a really good wide receiver class. The best of them skipping the senior bowl. Five, six guys really at the top of the class. Seven maybe even not there. And even with what was left, I was really impressed by the guys that were there. Malachi Fields, if you're a Pitt fan, you don't really need a reintroduction to him. He's already had
four yards at Akershire Stadium than all of the Steelers' returning receivers other than TK Metcalf. He's a big guy, really good combat catch, physical player from Notre Dame. And I thought another one that really stood out to me this week maybe that I kind of went there thinking Malachi Fields is going to be one of the best receivers there. Kevin Coleman Jr. from Missouri said,
He's a little bit of a smaller guy, a little bit more of a route runner. I think when you look at the kinds of receivers that Mike McCarthy has used over his career, he probably fits that mold even better. And, man, he was impossible to cover this week. So I think a couple of guys there at wide receiver. And I'll give you a safety. Bud Clark from TCU.
Just feels like a Pittsburgh Steeler, a really physical guy who likes to get in the box and hit people, but also has great closing speed, really good hands, made a diving interception to end practice yesterday. Thought he was really, really good.
