Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
I don't know. They see these guys every day. Bob, how many wins for the Pirates? Why don't we give people a chance to step to the plate and take their own swing?
Chapter 2: What predictions do Bob, Joe, and Austin make about the Pirates' win total?
I think people think that we're crazy.
I don't think so. I do. No, I think people who go the other way are conditioned to do it because that's what the Pirates have done.
Do you think it's crazy to pick 78 wins? I don't.
No, I think 72. Mark is a little low. I do.
Well, Mark does that to tweak limits. Kabaly we're talking about.
Clearly. Yeah, I think people, I bet you if we take calls, and do we have a lot of calls? Yeah, they're coming in.
I bet you most people will be in agreement with us.

Chapter 3: Why do they believe the Pirates can finish over .500 this season?
Let's take winner's limits and don't turn away callers like you did in the first segment.
Wow. What an accusation. That's almost as bad as the accusation that Pony made yesterday towards Bob. Bob, did you hear that Pony called you and I out? For what? The whole first segment and their second segment. For what? Basically calling us a bunch of morons for saying that if the Penguins don't make the playoffs, it's not a complete failure.
No, just you two. Not all of us. You two. He agreed with me.
Did he use the word moron? No. Well, Pony likes to put words in other people's mouths, so let's put some words in his mouth. Yeah, he basically called us a moron.
Both of us, Bob. I don't think they're moronic takes to say that.
He said, how dare Bob Pompiani, one of the greatest...

Chapter 4: What are the differing opinions on the Pirates' win predictions?
sports professionals in Pittsburgh history and city limits who thinks he is that. How about that shot towards me, Bob? Say that the Penguins, if they miss the playoffs, there's not a failed season. How dare they?
Again, I would look at things from start to finish and what I expected for them, which was a playoff spot. If they don't make it, the failure is too hard of a word. That's all I'm saying about that. I think they've come a long way. I think they've given you a lot of season to enjoy. I think they obviously have things that need to upgrade, but they knew that going all along.
So I'm not giving up on the season either. I think they've shown the ability to bounce back.
How did we go there from the Pirates opening day lineup? A couple of texters were texting that in.
That they ripped you yesterday? Yeah.

Chapter 5: How do past performances influence current expectations for the Pirates?
Yeah.
I heard it too. And I even said to Pony during a break, wow, got a little personal there, Pony. And then he continued to take shots.
He got personal with me too. He said that I take your arguments too personally. That's what he said. Right on the air, Bob. Do you, Joe? No, I don't. Do you? I don't. Well, there you go.
Let's go to Chris in Connellsville.
Chris is out in Connellsville. I didn't even put out the topic limits. The topic is how many wins do you think the Pirates will make?
This is how we got on this topic. Because you accused me of sending away callers, which wasn't true.
The topic is this. And the number is what we're looking for, Chris. Step up to the plate with a win total. I think people think we went too high.
He just got a strike called on him because he's been waiting for the pitch to deliver, and you denied him. It's a pitch clock violation on Joe.
Give us a call with your win total and defend it. 412-928-9370. Step on up. What's up, buddy?

Chapter 6: What factors contribute to the Pirates' potential success this season?
I just happen to think that they're an improved team. I think they can be a good team. Certainly not a great team. I think they'll be hovering around 500 for a lot of the year. And then I think they can have a strong finish and get to 86. That's what I'm predicting. 86 and 76. which would be a 15-game improvement from last season, but really a 10-game improvement from the two years before that.
That's my baseline, is where they got to, the high point under Shelton. Can they exceed that by 10 by going out and getting two All-Stars, an MVP finalist from the year before, and hopefully a better bullpen at the start than the start of last year? That was a big problem at the start of last year, starting with the first game, was the bullpen. Then it got better.
You know, it turned out okay, I guess, in some ways, but not great, not lights out great. They need to be really, really good from the start. So step up with your win total, briefly defend it, and we'll hang up and go to the next person. Limits?
The lines are now completely full, gentlemen. As we go to Sammy, he's in New York. He's going to the game today.
Say hi to Sammy. How you doing, guys? Sammy, what's up?
I'm doing good. Going to the game today. And I'm not seeing much of what the local media is seeing. I'm not that bullish on the Pirates this year. Reasons why?
Give me a win total, Sammy. Give me a win total.
77 and 85. Okay. Maybe a bit better than last year. Hitting maybe got a bit better. Pitching maybe a bit worse.

Chapter 7: How do callers contribute to the discussion on the Pirates' win total?
Why worse? Not sure we could. Mitch Keller always dwindles down towards the end of the year. We don't know much about Bubba Chandler. And the rest of the rotation isn't that great, obviously, besides for Paul Skins.
I hear you, and my respect for you is great. Thank you for calling. Next.
Here's our guy Emmanuel in Carnegie to give his one total.
Hello, Emmanuel. Say hi to Bob.
Hello, Bob. Hello, guys. I kind of agree with the last caller, to be honest. My win total is, believe it or not, 81-81. I bumped it down two games just because we're not starting the best shortstop in the league, or to be the best shortstop in the league. That's one of the problems. Also, our back end of our pitching rotation sucks. The back end of our lineup sucks.
So, yeah, I think we're an improved team, but not ā as improved as everybody thinks. I got us going 81 and 81.
Bob, those are reasonable points if someone says the back end of the rotation is filled with question marks and the back end of the lineup stinks.
Well, when you say the back end of the rotation is filled with credit, you're absolutely right. The lineup is going to change once Connor Griffin gets up here, and I think it does have kind of a domino effect on everyone else. It should push people down. This is why, and I agree with Emmanuel on this, I think that he should have been up here from the beginning.
Even if they have Triolo on the team. Why? Because he's a defensive guy. And he does hit lefties. At the very worst, Connor Griffin is still your best shortstop in the system. So if he struggles a little bit to start with, at least you put Triolo at third and him at short. That would be better than what I think they have now. Because you have two guys essentially playing out of position.

Chapter 8: What challenges do the Pirates face in achieving their predicted win total?
Bob says you're wrong. What do you think of that, Hoagie?
I'm not saying that. I'm just saying I think the Cubs rotation is not what Hoagie has described here.
You're right about that. That was a kind way for Bob to read it. They have the potential to be good, but I don't think they're going to live up to it. The rotation, I'm not confident in.
So you're basically, Hoagie, saying that you think the National League Central is a bad division, and as such, 88 would win.
I think that, well, my reasoning for 88 is I think how many games did Skeens lose, like, lose 1-0 or 2-0 last year with a low average offense, which most of these players that are coming back have been in the rotation or in the lineup. Well, now you have O'Hearn, Lau, I think Reynolds is going to bounce back to bat around 270, 280.
I think that's enough to get you a few extra wins during schemes as starts. And I think that's going to be enough to keep them around and win the Central.
Thank you, Hoagie. And Bob has taken us over the hour again. Take care, buddy. Are the lines still packed, Limits? They are. Why don't we give people, we'll interweave.
are their predictions with our time capsule bob does that sound reasonable it sounds wonderful i want division winners i want nl and al championship series i want world series with the winner mvp cy young rookie of the years and also over unders and funny predictions with the pirates that we'll put into a time capsule we'll send limits out into the sea to fetch it
Normally when that happens, when we hatch it, it's not good news. We normally say things that don't. I know.
