Chapter 4: What concerns do fans have about McCarthy's coaching style?
As a matter of fact, the future is not bright in Pittsburgh. I cannot believe this organization... Of all organizations, decided to go Mike McCarthy as head coach. Are you kidding me? The team that brought in Mike Tomlin? I mean, at the time was, I believe, the youngest head coach at the time. And then on top of that, we're talking about, you know, the Rooney rule, for God's sakes.
I mean, it originates in Pittsburgh, right? Like, how does Mike McCarthy... A retread of retreads end up in Pittsburgh.
Chapter 5: How does McCarthy's past performance influence his new role?
It's just, it's shocking to me to see him back playing for the, or coaching the Steelers.
Yeah. Mike Tomlin, 34 years old when he was hired by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Bill Cowher, the previous head coach, was 34 years old when hired by the Pittsburgh Steelers. So a lot of people are like, all right, is this a Grant Udinski? Is this a Nate Sheilhaus? Exactly. Is this a Chris Shula?
Is it, you know, maybe even Brian Forrest is a little bit older than that, but he's obviously been in Pittsburgh one time before. It's like, is this that young kind of up and coming guy under the radar?
Chapter 6: What does the hiring of McCarthy say about the Steelers' direction?
Correct. Nope. Nope. It's a guy who's almost twice that age in Mike McCarthy.
Crazy.
Number one, it's so funny that this is the coaching cycle that I started saying I could not care less, and I'm tired of hearing about this, where somebody grew up in relation to them getting a head coaching job. I was like, enough already in the 70s? Like, who cares?
And then the Steelers hired Mike McCarthy because he's from Pittsburgh. Which, by the way, Steelers, remember the last time you did this?
Chapter 7: How might McCarthy's coaching affect the Steelers' roster decisions?
Like, oh, man, we searched all over the nation for a quarterback. And guess what? We found him. He was the girl next door. He was Kenny Pickett in our own facility at the University of Pittsburgh. How'd that work out for you? Not so well. And obviously, that's not the only reason they hired Mike McCarthy. And look, I think there are certain teams that McCarthy doesn't
I could have squinted and been like, okay.
Chapter 8: What are the long-term expectations for McCarthy with the Steelers?
If the Titans had decided to hire Mike McCarthy because we just want to get on base with the offense, just like something that will be functional, somebody who's been a head coach before. We've been such a mess previously. I wouldn't have been like, hell yeah, home run hire, but I wouldn't have made fun of them for hiring Mike McCarthy.
But for the Steelers to do it, it just ā it clearly says that they are ā scared of the rebuild. And, and it also says to me like, man, this was a 100% Mike Tomlin. I'm breaking up with you guys. And 0% Pittsburgh. Like this was no mutual thing. This was Tomlin's out of there.
And you know, we'll see if this ends up being true, but like Jay Glazer, who is close with Tomlin, it says like Tomlin's not coming back to coach. He's done with coaching, which maybe that's true. Maybe that's not, maybe it ends up, he does, he does end up coming back next year is, which was kind of my original prediction. But yeah, Man, yeah, he was out of there.
And, yeah, they just go ahead and try to play it safe with McCarthy. Now people are talking about his Rodgers coming back. Rodgers is definitely coming back. Yeah, he's coming back. If I was a Steelers fan, I would just be so disheartened.
I'd be sickened.
I'd be sick. Yeah, this is the moment that you felt like you could really turn the page and you were kind of stuck in this neutral era with Tomlin.
Yeah.
And now it's McCarthy. Like I said, I think McCarthy is a...
fine offensive coach like I think he's he's had some good moments as an offensive coach but what would really stick with me is that the last two places that he was at Green Bay they move on from him they hire Matt LaFleur offense is instantly more dynamic and instantly much more suited to today's game the Cowboys they move on from Mike McCarthy the offense this year under Brian Schottenheimer and Clayton Adams is instantly much more dynamic instantly that would really bother me
