First up, Russia reportedly is supplying Iran with drone components, ammunition, and explosives, helping the Iranian regime rebuild what American and Israeli strikes destroyed. Later in the show, China completes the first phase of an enormous artificial island that could become its largest military base in the South China Sea. Plus, fuel rationing once again. reaches Moscow as Ukrainian drone attacks disrupt Russia's refineries and leave drivers waiting in long lines. And in today's back of the brief, the UAE suspends all economic ties with Iran, after Tehran targets the Emirates with ballistic missiles.
But first, today's PDB spotlight. Russia is reportedly helping Iran rebuild the weapons stockpiles damaged by months of American and Israeli airstrikes using a supply route that the U.S. Navy can't easily touch. According to NBC News, a European government document shows Moscow shipping drone components, ammunition, and explosives across the Caspian Sea to Iran. A Western official verified the document. Which reportedly identifies more than two dozen Russian vessels delivering military cargo to Iran's northern port of Amirobad. Now, many of those ships are already under American or European sanctions. Some are connected to MG Flot, a Russian maritime company, previously accused of transporting Iranian weapons to Russia.

When Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, Iran, you may recall, became one of Moscow's most important military suppliers. Tehran provided Russia with thousands of Shahed attack drones, along with the technology and expertise needed to manufacture them domestically.
Russia then began modifying the Iranian designs. It developed new variants with better navigation systems, longer ranges, and greater resistance to electronic jamming. It also learned how to manufacture them at scale and launch them in enormous waves designed to overwhelm Western air defenses. Some of the latest Russian versions are jet powered now and fly considerably faster than the original Iranian models. And now, after years of using Iranian technology against Ukraine, Moscow may be sending its improved components and battlefield knowledge back to Tehran. In other words, Iran gave Russia the foundation for its drone war. Russia spent the next four years refining it, and may now be returning a much more dangerous version to the Iranian regime.
And that brings us to how these shipments are reportedly reaching Iran. The Caspian Sea is landlocked, bordered by Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Azerbaijan. Russian ships can leave their ports on the Caspian Sea, travel south and unload directly at Iranian ports, where the cargo can continue by road or rail. The US Navy has no access to those waters. And that makes the Caspian corridor fundamentally different from the ship. shipping routes along Iran's southern coast. American warships may be enforcing a blockade near the Persian Gulf, but they cannot position destroyers between Russia and Iran in the Caspian Sea. Israel and Ukraine in the past have both attempted to disrupt that route.
