It's Thursday, the 30th of April, the very last day of the month. How about that? Welcome to the PDB Afternoon Bulletin. I'm Mike Baker, your eyes and ears on the world stage. All right, let's get briefed. First up, new signs that the U.S. could be preparing to renew military operations against Iran, as the White House reviews strike plans and reportedly may be preparing to use a hypersonic weapon for the first time. I'll have the details. Later in the show, authorities across Europe are investigating a wave of attacks targeting Jewish communities, and the fingerprints from those attacks may lead back to Iran. But first, today's afternoon spotlight. This morning, we noted that the White House was looking to make the ongoing U.S.
blockade of Iran the central point of pressure on the regime. However, it does appear that military options are still very much on the table. According to new reporting, President Trump is set to receive a high-level briefing from the U.S. Central Command on a range of updated military options for Iran, and these are reportedly concrete proposals designed to either break the current stalemate in negotiations or deliver a decisive blow before ending the conflict altogether. Now, it's worth noting that the last time Trump received a similar briefing from CENTCOM, back in late February, it helped set the stage for the opening phase of the war. So, this is the kind of meeting that could shift the direction of the conflict.
Among the options being presented is a, quote, short and powerful wave of strikes targeting key Iranian infrastructure. The idea here would be speed and intensity. Hit hard, hit fast, and force Tehran back to the negotiating table under pressure. Another plan under consideration involves securing parts of the Strait of Hormuz, potentially with ground forces, to ensure commercial shipping can move freely again. Now, that would mark a significant escalation, of course, shifting from a naval blockade to physically controlling territory along the strait. And, of course, putting U.S. forces in direct proximity to Iranian weapons systems, including drones and short-range missiles. There's also been discussion of a special operations mission aimed at securing Iran's stockpile of highly enriched uranium.
Now, that's a high-risk but high-reward move that could strike at the heart of the regime's nuclear leverage. But perhaps the most notable development is the potential deployment of a weapon that the U.S. has never used in combat before, the Army's long-range hypersonic weapon known as, quote, «Dark Eagle». Each missile reportedly carries a price tag of around $15 million, and there are only a handful currently available. So it's not a weapon that you would use casually. It's reserved for, you would think, the highest value targets. The system is designed to strike targets at extreme distances, more than 1,700 miles, while traveling at speeds that make it incredibly difficult to intercept.
