And they've only had four losing months, full losing months since then. 20 out of 25, four losing months. They've been consistently good. And they're coming off a 96 and a 95 win year. 9-19, Gonzo.
Like, let's do this, because again, we're having this conversation because there is, in my opinion, 0% chance. Maybe 1% had crept in when they were at their lowest point. Maybe it's like, huh, maybe we need to start watching this thing. Maybe that had, but I can tell you that nobody, I have talked to no one, I've heard nothing
at all that they were even looking at that, not even giving it a thought. So I don't think there was ever a chance. And I think right now, coming off three straight wins, let's see, an 0-6 road trip where you now will come home and still have only won one game on the road? Well, then maybe there'll be a small percentage chance. We'll say there are some thoughts about it.
But I want to underscore, because I don't want to go around, they were talking about firing you, Q. We're not.

Chapter 4: What are the warning signs indicating a need for managerial changes?
We're not. That's not it. But in this time that we're not, I want to take a minute and say, what are the signs to beginning to consider making changes with your manager? I will tell you that the slow start for a second consecutive year, On the hitting, I do believe conversations about Alex Zumwalt were fair.
And, you know, even if it was like, well, they're not doing this, this, and this, but they're doing this. Yeah, but it's too early. Okay, when is it? I think it should have been like, when is it not too early? I think they had struggled enough to a conversation where ā
you know, okay, we're going to give it four weeks, or we are ā June 1 is it, but we have some benchmarks that we've got to be at or we're making a change. And I do think they were there on that front. But I don't think for a second they were really anywhere on Matt Quattro. So now that we have this opportunity, where ā What would be the warning signs for when you would consider it?
What do we need to see? And I'll even say to Alex Zumwalt's point that their hitting over the last few games has probably cooled that seat quite a bit. And I don't ever think it was hot. I don't ever think they were ready to pull the trigger. I think... And I think probably they're going to be slow in doing that, slower than we all think, because I believe that J.J.
Piccolo and Matt Quattro would be the types that they want to be absolutely certain. They want to feel like they have exhausted every possible opportunity because they put Alex Zumwalt in the position they put him in because they think he can do it and do it well. Right. And they've talked to a lot of people.
But I think really their performance of hitting the ball over the wall and continuing to walk and and doing those things, a 10 walk day on Saturday, a eight extra base hit day on Sunday that cooled the temperatures quite a bit. Angels. Yes. Big participants in that. So now we're going to get a measuring stick as they head out on the road in a different ballpark and what have you.

Chapter 5: How do injuries and player performance affect team strategy?
But while there is nothing going on, what do you need to see? If you're. a general manager, or you're an owner to where you say, okay, well, maybe we're going to make a change?
At the top, at the manager? Yes. Given their situation, I think it would have to be a stretch where it appeared that not only were they losing but the idea he's lost the team or that were there maybe moves that were so egregious that you kind of had to step in but to me it would take if you feel like he's lost the confidence of the clubhouse which I don't see at all but
Other than that, it would take such a horrific season to what they would gas pipe him. And it would be a season that I don't think is possible, but is probable in any way. It's almost like when we talked about the three... Big 12 football coaches, what gets them fired? Well, I don't think anything, whatever would get them fired isn't likely to happen. It's similar to that.
It's maybe a little bit more likely, but it's still not likely at all. I mean, 100 losses might get it done, but this team, I don't think it seems to be losing 100 games. So other than that, failing that, I think it would have to be a situation where it was readily apparent that the better players on the team
the leaders on the team no longer had confidence in him, which I also don't see happening anytime soon.
Kyle, what are your warning signs?
I haven't seen any yet. You know, a guy like Carter Jensen, for example, he's other than, you know, Mike Kell, at least to start the season, I think he was your best hitter, and he's been earning everyday starts, even against left-handers. So keeping the hot guys in, I like to see that. Jack Caglione's, you know, a different case that I'm sure we'll get to later this hour.
Well, I mean, we can talk about it right now because I've heard the conversation, and it's already begun. I mean, first of all, I think there's a lot of ā There's a lot of people that are rooting for their predictions.
There's a lot of people that were talking about why did it take so long for Jack Caglione to get called up, to watch him utterly fail last year, and to have egg on your face if you're like, I had people texting me, when he first got called up, they wasted two weeks of his production in Omaha. And like, clearly not, because there was no production.

Chapter 6: What factors contribute to the Royals' offensive struggles?
What are you looking at? I mean, like, if anything, why aren't you looking at it and saying, man, they nailed it with this guy. They propped up his batting average and on base early by protecting him. And now the power is starting to come around. Boy, they really seem to have a feel for Jack Caglione. Because I'll be honest with you.
Like, he was better this year than last year, but he still had no pop. And now the pop is coming around. Like...
Which is kind of going around the entire team as they managed to creep up on base and the slugging from earlier in the year.
And I will continue to reiterate, there's more to it in the modern analytic world than just left-handed and right-handed. Yes, the lefty on lefty for a hitter is going to be harder, but there are some lefties that you've got a better chance against. Right. And why not? I mean, Jack Caglione looked unbelievably lost last year. Jack Caglione was not a confident guy going to the plate.
And he could have literally the only way he could have looked in the face worse. Because I've had a lot of managers and GMs tell me over the years, well, we can tell it on his face. I mean, when he's taken, you know, when he goes out and he starts having fielding problems, when he's taking his hitting woes to the field, then we know, well, that didn't happen.
Then I've had others like, you can see it on their face. You can tell when a guy's not confident. You can tell when he doesn't think he's going up to the plate and he's already beaten. Well, that's how he looked to me. Yes. All right, that's what he looked like last year to me. And I thought he looked optimistic at the plate, but not confident when the year began.
I thought he looked better, but this didn't look like the Paul Bunyan assassin that he looked like when you'd watch minor league games Video of him go up there and just look out at a guy like, I am going to, I'll hit this ball so hard it hits you in the chest and knocks you over the freaking wall. I mean, he walked out there like King Kong. And that has not been the guy who walked out there.

Chapter 7: How does the team plan to improve its road performance?
So from that standpoint, at least from what I'm seeing, so for me, I don't understand why, like, is everything wrong? It's just a matter of which direction? Is that really the premise that everybody works for? You know, I read a thing. I retweeted it. Brian Haney sent out a thank you to Ryan Lefevre. for coming and talking to a class that Brian Haney teaches up at KU.
And he listed what were the talking points, what Ryan Lefevre feels are the good, the important things for a play-by-play guy. And if you aspire to doing that job, I would really encourage you to take a look at that. Juan Ryan is very good at what he does, very successful. And one of them he said in there is, you know, My job is not to make me sound great.
My job is to show how great the players are and how good the manager and coaching staff and front office is at putting them in a position to succeed. And I thought that was an amazing way. You know, most people say, like, my job is to, you know, accurately detail the game. You know, accurately portray the game. Portray the game to all the nuances where the fans can understand what's going on.
I would say bring enjoyment, bring entertainment through educating the fans about what's going on. He had an amazing way of looking at it. Because he is right. These are the best players. By the way, Ryan was in the minor leagues. And Ryan was drafted. I mean, he's given it a shot. And he's seen that while he was a big talent, Big Ten baseball player, he wasn't Major League good.
And so he's tried to make it go. He knows what it is. He understands how special these players are.
His father was a Major League manager.

Chapter 8: What are the community expectations for the Royals' future?
He understands the majors.
As fans, we should all understand that better. But we don't because we didn't even get close to it. So it's ā you know, listen, and I will defend the fans. There's two sides to everything. I will defend the fans. I don't have to be a chef to know what tastes good. Okay? I can be like, this plate of pasta sucks. I don't have to have a chef's degree to do it.
Likewise, I can tell you when a guy ā Getting thrown out, making the first out at third. There are things that we don't have to have gone to the minor leagues to do that. I get it. I'm not trying to say every fan should just shut up and eat what they're told. That's not my point.
But you wouldn't tell the chef, you need more oregano.
Yeah. But I thought Ryan's point about showcasing how great the players are is... an important part of the equation, but also how great the coaching staff and the managers. I mean, they pour over this for hours and hours. This is all they do. They get into the ballpark probably a little after what would be your normal arrival time, and they don't leave until 11-something at night.
It's all they do for six months. Do you really think that Matt Quattrero came across lefty-righty and didn't consume that part of the equation?
Something we've been doing for 40 years.
They've got an entire analytics department, of which Matt Quattro came from two of the most analytically concentrated organizations in baseball. Two of the frontrunners in the Rays and Guardians. And he's done nothing but sit watch on, along with mostly J.J. Piccolo, who has done nothing but expand Daniel Mack's department. Do you honestly think he came in and went, ah...
I'm not feeling it with CAGS against the lefties. I don't need the reams and reams of data you've got that suggest otherwise. Set that aside, men. I got a hunch. Like, come on. Don't belittle yourself and make yourself look like a fool that you don't think that this man has spent a couple minutes on what he thinks the lineup should be.
