Thanks for joining us here on Sports Radio 810 WHB. Still to come, Colin Klein, head coach of the K-State Wildcat football team in his first season. Looking forward to having our first conversation with Colin Klein. This is easier to do this than it is to send a text. I just realized that Todd did some work on the page as well. So one to four, six to nine.
I could have texted that, but it would take me ā let's just get it rolling. Okay. A little peek under the covers. I forgot. Todd added some good stuff today. One to four and six to nine. Todd, you want to give us an update when you go messing around with things? I just forgot about it. You think so?
In fact, if you want to go ā I think it's sabotage because I asked him what he thought of OU's chances of advancing to Oklahoma City. in the ladies' softball at the programming meeting today, and he did not take kindly to it. You know, because they're out. And so I think he sabotaged the program is what I think. In fact, the more I look at it, maybe we go 6-9 and then 1-4.
You know, maybe if you weren't playing grab ass with Blair the whole break. Yeah, I know. It's crazy how I did that. Dude, we thought the perfect game ended in the first inning. There was never a chance of that happening. When we opened with Royals? Is that when it ended? Or when I did the throw? I was like, oh, that's it. Gave this no thought. Forgot to do that again.
Actually, I did give it a thought. Really? I was just trying to make it fun. I was trying to cover for you there. Ah, that's not that funny. It was okay. I'll give you credit. All right. Let's hear a little Dan Fitzgerald. You know, he is the head baseball coach of Kansas. He is. Stick and bowl school. They are officially. Is what they are now. They are officially a stick and bowl school.
Do you think that they will buy the rules of baseball and put them in their hallowed halls? That'd be funny. I'm not making fun of the Kansas baseball team. I'm having a little fun at the expense of the basketball team. And yes, my team is atrocious at basketball. So, you know, it's all I can do. Sorry, Kyle. New head coach this year. You'll be all right. It's all fixed. Jerry McNamara.
We're just going to lob threes all day. You know, we got it all fixed now. We did at least get back to the Final Four in lacrosse. This year, which we are kind of the UCLA Bruins of basketball and lacrosse, all of our championships. But we have fallen on hard times. Like, who was the coach before the one who won with Ed O'Bannon? Oh. Casey Martin or what was his name? Larry Farmer.
Larry, was that what it was? There was also, who was it? Waldhazard was there? No, Waldhazard. That's what I was going to say. The Waldhazard years. Of UCLA basketball. We had a great ā this is what people want to hear is lacrosse talk. We had a great Simmons. I can't remember what his first name was. Was a great lacrosse coach and won a bunch of championships for Syracuse.

Chapter 2: What challenges does KSU's new head coach Collin Klein face in his first season?
I mean, they were on a lot of different locations, obviously, with the regionals. But very cool that, yeah, I thought the coolest was Missouri State, Arkansas, playing in Lawrence. Yeah. I thought that was a great advertisement for where Kansas baseball is. I mean, when you get a regional, you get other teams there. And so that game that doesn't involve you is there also. Yep.
And so I thought that was really cool. I was watching that game as well. Obviously, regional flavor. Got a lot of Arkansas fans here in Missouri State and everything. That was a lot of fun to watch there as well. Super Regional is going to get going on Saturday. Fitzgerald says starting on Saturday is just fine with him.
Chapter 3: How does Collin Klein plan to build his coaching staff?
The adrenaline and emotional energy. piece of the win, being down five, coming back, winning at home, couldn't hear each other. The crowd is so ridiculous. I was yelling at someone at second base not to get picked off, and I'm like, they can't, they don't even know I'm here. I couldn't even get their attention.
And so I think emotionally it was so draining that I'm definitely glad we have some rest, but I was good with either Friday or Saturday.
By the way, What I love about this is Brian Haney is one of those play-by-play guys that does football, basketball, and baseball. Which is not common. Learning all the Brian Haney calls on baseball.
Chapter 4: What is the impact of NIL and transfer portals on college football recruiting?
Yes. He does a nice job. It's a two-hand! I don't know how to... How do you do that? Yeah. Monster home run swing. They want a double play. They get a double play. I don't know how you do that. He wants a ground ball. He's got a ground ball.
I'll strike out. I don't know how he does it. We have yet to see somebody charge the mound when he's calling a game. That's true.
Chapter 5: What are Collin Klein's expectations for K-State's upcoming football season?
Gets a punch in the face.
He wants a punch. He gets a punch in the face. And a rib rocking, a rib cracking swivel kick. I want to hear some more Brian Haney baseball cuts. Imagine, though. He has an excellent chance of being able to call a national championship game in basketball and a college World Series within a four-year span. It's a pretty good run. Yeah, pretty good run.
Fitzgerald impressed by what he's seen from these Oklahoma Sooners.
Really athletic. They can run. They're great defensively. Very solid lineup. They play really good baseball. They have a great pitching staff. You know, probably similar comments as to everyone who's playing in a super. Their coaching staff has been there and done that. They're just good on both sides of the ball.
Probably very similar to some of the teams we've played in the Big 12 in terms of they run, but they also have power. They're really good, and it'll be a great challenge for us.
And they have one of the strongest wills of a player. The kid who hit the walk-off, Dayton Taki, was previous at-bats. He was more well-known with the fact that he fouled one off into his nether regions and crumpled at the ground that everyone's like, oh, dude took one right in the... And then he goes 450 to walk it off.
The SportsCenter anchor last night, female SportsCenter anchor, called it a foul one into the future family region. That's pretty good. I was like, oh, okay. And he went down like he had been shot by a sniper. His mom was in the stands. Boom. Did you see that? Got up next time, 450. Yeah. Not bad. Not bad. None of the eight teams that were in last year's College World Series is still alive.
Fitzgerald is not surprised at the parity we're seeing in college baseball this year.
You can get good in a hurry, and you can get bad in a hurry. The culture piece is super important. Like, it's not surprising inside of the wall. Like, as a baseball coach, it's not surprising to see Little Rock and Troy in supers. Those are two elite coaches.

Chapter 6: What are the key differences between coaching in the SEC and Big 12?
Breaking news in college baseball. Basketball? That was a movie. College baseball. The season, the dream has ended for the Mules of Central Missouri State University. The game has just ended. They fell to UT Tyler 11-7 in the Division II Championship Series down in Blair's stomping grounds, Cary, North Carolina. So the Mules are done, but, you know, fantastic job.
Well, congratulations on a very good season. Yep. It ends, but still a hell of a year. Yep. Tyler scored six in the eighth to take an 11-2 lead. The Mules got five in the ninth, but could not close the gap any further. There were seven errors in the game. Crisp ball.
Chapter 7: How does Collin Klein plan to utilize his quarterback's skills?
Crisp ball game in just under five hours, probably. These high school games take forever. Or college games. College games take forever. Ping, ping, ping, ping. They don't have any bullpen rules. You don't have to face three guys. Do whatever you want. Lebo was playing the, you know, just an unranked team trying to hang in there. Feel any pressure, Kansas boy?
Being the ranked team against Lebo's unranked Sooners? No, I don't think so.
Okay. It's at home. They're ready to puff their chest out and host a Super Regional. They're going to be ready to go.
Chapter 8: How does Collin Klein view the state of high school football talent in Kansas?
And then on to Omaha. Are you going to Omaha if they go?
We'll see.
Okay. How could you not, man? This is like the, you know, first Super Bowl for Chiefs fans. Right. Yes. We're all going to Miami. I don't know if I'll ever see it again.
If Gervetta gives me a ride, I'll go.
Okay.
There you go. Is he definitely going? I'm not sure. We'll have to ask him. All right.
Adam just texted us. I know some people in Omaha might be able to get you a place to stay. There you go. Okay. Okay. Lean on your friends. Stats. They're coming. Get ready. The Cleveland Browns have traded Miles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams on a team of golf event before the news was announced. A new head coach, Todd Monken, was asked about the speculation that at that time. Wrong day?
It was from yesterday. Up to the top. I just read the numbers. It says 6-1. Blank you, San Diego? It is Brown stuff, though. Go blank yourself, San Diego. That's what it was. Put it in front of me and I read it. It is still the Browns, but it's GM Andrew Barry from earlier today. Forget about that other stuff. I was grabbing at straws with that other stuff.
This is what I really wanted to talk about. Browns GM Andrew Barry said it's not a trade they'd been working on for long.
