Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Fourth quarter of the program begins right now as we finish strong here on a Tuesday. Coming up here in a little bit, we will talk college football. Shahan Jayarajah, National College Football Writer for the CBS Sports, joins us. We begin here with the things you need to know. Proudly brought to you by our friends at Easton Roofing.
Chapter 2: What are the latest updates in college football?
Kansas City's best when it comes to putting a roof over your family's head, over your business's head, is Easton Roofing. Guttering, yep, they do that. They got all different kinds of gutter covers to choose from. How about siding? They do that as well. Commercial, residential, Easton Roofing. Find them online at eastonroofing.com. The only folks I will allow on my roof are Easton Roofing.
A lot of hail damage. If you're not sure, get a free estimate. Get a free inspection right now from Easton Roofing. Go to eastonroofing.com. Let's begin with some Chiefs news. We have the opener for the Kansas City Chiefs. Chiefs and Broncos squaring off September 14th. Monday night football. It will be in Kansas City.
The AFC West champion Denver Broncos coming to Kansas City, ending their nine-year streak atop the division. The Chiefs can get back at trying to start a new streak by knocking off last year's champ.
I like it.
Not bad. I'll take it. The 14th. Frank Holtz pointing this out. I didn't really think about it, but pretty late.
Yeah. Pretty late start for that. I heard someone say they almost wanted to be in Denver so they could go there and beat them in Denver and say, all right, got that taken care of.
Well, they'll get that chance.
Yeah, but it was like to start the season. Imagine they go into Denver and win that game. Like, all right, we just won in your barn. Now we're even, Steve, and the rest of the way, and we're game up on you.
Joe Buck and Troy Aikman will have the call of the game on ESPN. Troy Aikman said he really likes the matchup.

Chapter 3: How did the Kansas City Chiefs' season opener shape up?
Yeah. Opportunity to go up 1-0.
Chapter 4: What is the significance of the Chiefs vs. Broncos matchup?
And that, I mean, I mentioned what would have been for the Chiefs if they'd gone to Denver. That's there for the Broncos. I mean, they come in and win their fourth straight against Kansas City, beating them twice in a row in Kansas City and opening the season with a win. They can stamp their foot on the AFC West to start the year. Okay, now we've got everybody back.
We're back and we just beat you again.
The other news we have about the Chiefs is they have announced what the game in Spain will be. While the rain in Spain falls mainly on the plane, the Chiefs will not be on that plane. No. No. Bengals-Falcons is going to be the game in Spain. So we can eliminate the Chiefs playing in Madrid this year, something that ownership had wanted.
Yeah, they weren't necessarily expecting it, but they were still, I guess, somewhat hopeful.
They lobbied for it. They fought for it. For sure. So we'll continue to get these little trickles about the schedule out. We'll bring you any new news that we get as we progress towards it. College football news. Good news for Ahmaud Hardy and the Missouri Tigers. Their star running back has been released from the hospital today. He was shot in the upper leg on early Sunday morning.
He plans to head to Missouri's campus immediately to begin rehabbing with the goal of playing this year. They've said that they are hopeful that he will play again. It sounds like he's coming to campus. It doesn't look like there's necessarily some kind of rehab that's going to be required with any kind of special group, or I don't know, maybe Missouri has that special group.
I don't know what to make of that. I don't want to make too much of it, but I think it's a good sign if they're like, yeah, go on to Columbia.
Nobody tougher. in college football than Ahmad Hardy. He showed that last year. And if anybody's going to be ready to go on week one after that, it's going to be him.
Yeah. LeBron James has been uncommittal about what next year will hold. He was asked, what will the determining factors be on whether or not he's back next year?

Chapter 5: What are the implications of Ahmaud Hardy's health for Mizzou?
We've got three choices. Pick one. Guess who's got Murakami in the Fantasy Baseball League? You? Yeah, normally, no, it wouldn't be me. But yeah, this guy. I got two thumbs in Murakami on my team. Bite it. Actually got one right. 19 bucks. Thank you. There you go. By the way, he started out with like an 027 batting average. I'm like, yeah, this is my guy. This is the Japanese player I get.
This tracks. And then like a miracle occurred. He started hitting home runs. He and Junior Caminero powering the offense. Bob Witt coming alive. Pretty good squad. You liking those names I'm dropping out there? Jack Caglione could get some things happening. Looking better. If I could get Jackson Holiday's ass off the IL, that would be a tremendous achievement.
and he would actually be like, you know, kind of number one overall pick, good. Like, you know, maybe somewhere close to his dad. If I can get Colt Emerson called up by the Mariners, Kate Anderson called up by the Mariners, I got some weaponry here. I got a shot for the first time in years. He's got a shot. I've been paying double entrance fees for a long time. It's a bad trend.
It's not a good trend. It's not a good trend. Always a good trend, though, when we talk to Shahan Jayarajah, our college football insider from the CBS Sports. We will get his thoughts on the 24-game field. What does he think about KUK State? Missouri coming off the spring games, looking ahead to the start of the season. Shahan is next. Welcome back.

Yes, that'll be here very soon as well. Let's welcome, as I said, Shahan Jayarajah. He joins us here in the program. Shahan, how are you, sir? I'm doing great. Thanks for having me. Yeah, we appreciate it. Let's start first with the 2014 playoff. You know, I read some things, and it's like it's inevitable.
I see other people trying to read T. Lee's like, oh, Notre Dame and USC are going to try to get back together. They wouldn't do that. They wouldn't play that game unless they knew there was going to be an expanded playoffs. That's been one thought. What do you think? Is 24 inevitable, first and foremost? And secondly, is it inevitable this year?
Yeah, I think that, first of all, I mean, for this upcoming season, it's very unlikely. And the other thing, too, is that to even make a change for next year, that decision would have to be made by December 1st. And right now, I mean, the reality is, right, there are two giant stakeholders who will make that decision, one the Big Ten, one the SEC, and the SEC is holding out. And

Chapter 6: What challenges does Texas Tech face with their quarterback situation?
But I do like the clarification, the understanding of it. Shahan, you're the best. We appreciate the time. Thanks so much. We'll talk to you on Down the Road. Thank you guys for having me.
But first, De La Feta, delicatessen, end of the hour answer. Who was the opponent the last time the Chiefs opened the season on Monday night? You and I were there.
Ooh, was it the Bolts? Was that the 22s? punt return for a touchdown to win it? Yeah. The Ole Miss guy? Yeah, Dexter McCluster. Dexter McCluster. 2010. No shoe could contain him.
Many a defense could, but no shoe. In the rain, even. That was the year that they had the second. They had two Monday night games that year, and they were the late game. So we had a long day at Arrowhead that day. What's interesting is that's the only time they've done it.
Once, they're one of five teams to have opened the season on Monday night only one time, joining the Colts, Bucks, Panthers, and Titans. Four teams have done it ten times. Broncos. Wow. Cowboys. Cowboys. Raiders, Commanders.
Chiefs have been really good here of late, and they kind of fall in the time frame of when those Thursday night openers. So that's part of it. Probably Monday night was a bigger deal before they would open on a Thursday. Probably a lot of championship and high-level teams were opening on Mondays.
They went eight years between Monday night games from 83 to 91. That Buffalo game was the first game in eight years.
Why? They were so good. They were so good. Yeah. La Feta is so good. Get you some La Feta Italian Delicatessen. On any night. Lunch, dinner. Now's a great time. They're right there on the southeast corner of 143rd and Metcalf Catering. I know a lot of grad parties. It would be perfect for a grad party. Make sure you give at least 24 to 48 hours. Go to LaFetaDelicatessen.com.
That's LaFetaDelicatessen.com. La Feta Italian Delicatessen. Go to see our buddy Adam. Tell him the program sent you.
