Making New Habits Stick ●She did a 21-day course in the book, but the more she did research and paid attention to her own life and habits, she realized that there’s no specific amount of time to make new habits stick. ●It took her several tries to quit smoking until she finally did. ●Chunking things down into bite-sized actions makes it easier. The Importance of Boundaries ●Not having good boundaries is exhausting because you end up doing stuff you don’t want to do, which builds up resentment. ●Healthy, clear boundaries are a gift to everyone. ●Shifting to a perception of a healthy boundary as something positive is the first step. Setting Boundaries in Social Media ●She didn’t grow up with social media so she’s not as invested in it. ●Just like any other boundary or habit, specifics are the key to freedom. ●Don’t dwell too much on the negative stuff because people’s opinions and reactions about you are really about themselves. Minimizing Social Media Use ●Strictly set up times when you’re allowed to look at your phone. ●Intentionally doing something helps break the initial habit. ●Our gadgets are always interrupting us and stopping us from cherishing moments where we’re able to be with others. Staying Present ●Being present for anybody is definitely a challenge because we’re all busy, but it all boils down to intention. ●Just do your best and try not to beat yourself up. ●Writing notes to yourself, using visual cues, and taking a deep breath is helpful. How People Pleasers Can Set Boundaries ●In every single to-do list, consider if it brings you joy or if you want to do it. ●Connect with your feelings. ●You’re not serving anyone if you’re doing something you don’t want to do, especially if it’s just to please people.
