In this episode I am joined by Nick Alcock the Tax Debt Coach and financial therapist (www.taxdebtcoach.co.nz) . Nick is a Chartered Accountant with over 17 years’ experience working at a number of Chartered Accountancy firms across NZ and overseas helping business owners. As a result of his work Nick has acquired a lot of experience dealing with the Inland Revenue Department on behalf of his clients. Nick came across the subject of financial therapy one day quite by accident as a result of this he enrolled in a one year Masters Level Course in Financial Therapy via Kansas State University in America. This course helped Nick to better observe the habits and behaviours of the accounting clients he was working with and lead to the realisation that the new skills and knowledge he gained would greatly assist them with their businesses, especially where they had fallen behind meeting their tax obligations. This then lead Nick to helping a client who had a long history of tax arrears by filing a financial hardship application which in turn lead to the IRD writing off a large proportion of the tax arrears owed. This spurred Nick on to incorporating tax debt management as a niche service offering to his clients.
