🔥 Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa, nau mai hoki mai ki te kaupapa kōrero Real Talk.Today we have two very special guests joining me on the podcast, Mii & Sushi. I connected with these tāne through the Real Talk kaupapa, through their work with rangatahi in the community as youth mentors. Mii and Sushi were both raised in Māngere, South Auckland. We spoke about the freedom of self-expression that wāhine tend to have, and how Mii and Sushi actively work towards normalising tāne giving compliments to each other, without the ego, just expressing someone else’s value without being intimidated by it.Mii spoke about his childhood being raised by a strong, single māmā in a house of wāhine, his journey to being a youth mentor and the grief of losing his mother 4 years ago.Sushi shared his struggles at the lowest points in his life, how one encounter with Mii changed the trajectory of his story, and how much happiness and fulfilment it gives him to be able to do the same for younger rangatahi. These two are so wise beyond their years, so grounded and driven.
