And now every single person here is thinking, oh, maybe we don't. We are going to do something very unusual, which is we're going to dedicate this whole podcast to talking about Greenland. There is nobody in the world who hasn't followed this in outline. But in essence, what's happened is that Donald Trump, who since 2016-17 has been saying that Greenland should be part of the United States and he wants to buy it, has now moved to a completely new stage in which over the weekend, he has not only said that he will have Greenland, but when NATO deployed, when Norway, the UK, Denmark deployed troops to try to signal their support for Denmark's sovereign control of Greenland, it's part of Denmark. He's announced tariffs, and he's announced that he will have complete and total control of 98% of Danish territory by May, and he will ramp up tariffs until they hand it over.
It's really interesting. If you look at the list of the countries on which he said these tariffs are going to come, UK, France, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and the Netherlands. Now, If you're really going to do tariffs against seven of those eight countries, you talk about the European Union. He's trying to divide and rule. And I even wonder, you know, whether the reason that Sweden and Finland are in there is not necessarily because they're so close to Greenland. It's because actually they joined NATO. And I wonder whether I'm going to say something very controversial here. I even wonder whether that was a Putin ask. Putin will be absolutely dancing his little tappy toes away at this because this is 100%
fits with his long-term strategy. And I think if the SVR, if the Russian external intelligence service had tried to plan out over 10 years their dream scenario for how to destroy the Western alliance, undermine the United States and wreck NATO, they could not have come up with a better plan than this.
