Few things are more troubling to Latinos than hearing non-Latinos tell them who they are and what they are like. Unfortunately, because Latinos are so poorly represented in the national conversation that takes place in the US media and in cable news, there are few Latinos in a place to be able to refute anything that is said about them. The most trendy adage about Latinos these days seems to be that they are all different. It is usually phrased as such: “Latinos are not monolithic.” Is that even true?
