On the 20th anniversary of 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympic Games, Nicole and Sarah visit the Salt Lake City area - including the Utah Olympic Park and Woodward Park City. It’s clear that the 2002 Olympics have left a lasting legacy throughout the area. We visited is the Utah Olympic Park (called the “UOP” by the locals). The UOP was built for the 2002 Winter Olympics and is just 25 miles east of Salt Lake City. The 400 acre venue houses one of only four sliding tracks (bobsleigh, luge, skeleton) luge, skeleton) in North America, six Nordic ski jumps, a 2002 Winter Games museum, and a multitude of adventure activities. At the UOP we saw kids training slalom and moguls. We met a fellow ski mom, Barbara Wirostko Morelli and watched her daughter Cristina train freestyle moguls. We learned about how mogul competitions are scored and got some great advice for moms and kids interested in mogul competition. Cristina attends The Winter Sports School - a school for dedicated winter athletes that out of session during the winter months so she can train full time. We explored Woodward Park City, an indoor/outdoor sports facility and talked with Phoebe Mills, the General Manager of Woodward Park City (and an Olympic medalist).
