Totally Football Show European edition. Today, nice to mecha. Barisha Dortmund's free scoring Felix has them joint top of the table. We hear from Italy, the CES, Catalan's planing at Como, and the old lady vanishing, Spain, where Lamazier is rolling out yet another teenage star, France, and we get into the wide open Ballon d'Or and its very crowded lobby. It's the Toget Football Show. Monday the fourteenth of September, it's a brand new Totally Football Show European Edition. James Horncast was with us. Hi, James. Hello, James. So is Tom Williams. Hello, James. And we're joined from the continent by Paul Belouze. Cole. Hello, James. And Seb Stafford Blur. Hello, James. Hi. Tom, you were just saying about when you were a kid, you begged your parents to buy you a Heinz baked beef.
Tom Williams 1:18
Oh it was official then. It was official. It was legit. It had the logo on. Uh huh. Um and they were. So what did it consist of? It was a pizza with baked beans on. As basic as it sounds, I'm like, Oh, can we please get the baked bean pizza? No, it looks disgusting. And then I fell ill and I think to try and cheer me up, they they relented and they bought the Heinz baked bean pizza, but because I was ill I couldn't taste it properly. Or maybe that's just how it tasted anyway. Or maybe that's just how it tasted anyway. Perhaps it is. But I remember having a very forlorn experience sitting there sobbing into my beanie beanie pizza. Wow.
James Horncastle 1:50
I'm so glad the beanie pizza hasn't reached Italy. Because given how they react about pineapple. I mean do they those things Well, they do performatively,
James Richardson 1:58
yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Who else is intrigued by the notion of a flatbread with Heinz, official Heinz baked beans on top? Just me? Yes. Thank you, Seb. Poll two. Come on then. Weird.
Pol Ballus 2:13
I mean baked beans, I lived seven years in the UK, but it was one of the things that I could not get into. I mean there's just no way that I'm just having this and just the thought of having a baked being a a baked pizza pizza. I've tried to think like the worst things I've had in my mouth. But that should be on top of it. That would be another movie.
Ryan Hanley 2:35
Well Wow. Can we rank the other things that you put in your mouth which are the worst? Yeah, fine. Can you put a top ten for next week? Good good chart. Okay.
James Richardson 2:50
Um but yes. Thank you, Tom, for that. Oh Tom, by the way, uh Tom was joining us on our live show on Sunday. In which he whose shot was it? Was it Louis Dunks Marvellus School? Which you described as a Sontag sus A Sontag sus Sebe? I asked him what that meant. And Tom opened a copy of his book, Do You Speak Football? What did you say, Tom?
Tom Williams 3:19
Well, I d so in the book I explain the uh talk about the existence of the phrase, but I don't explain where it comes from. And I think I thought when I was writing the book that it was kinda self explanatory. Like it's kind of a Sunday Sunday thing. As it turns out A Sunday goal is Sonntag shoot. A Sunday shot. Sunday shot. And this expression exists in both Dutch and German. And as it turns out, and thanks to commenters on last night's uh pod
James Richardson 3:43
Odraki Odradeck ninety nine.
Tom Williams 3:46
And there's and there were a few others as well who really stirred the hor hornet's nest with this. It's because there is um uh uh this idea in Germany, and I guess also in the Netherlands, that um there's something lucky about Sunday. So a lucky person might be described as a Sunday child. Sunday's child. And so a Sunday shot, shot that sails in from thirty-five yards from the big lummocks of a centre back, is therefore a Sunday shot.
James Richardson 4:09
Isn't that interesting? Isn't that interesting. Seb, did you know about the Sontag shoes?
Jonathan Wilson 4:14
Yeah, I did. I would have probably used Tramtor for that one because it translates literally as dream goal, but it's also it's intended to mean like one of a kind like once in a lifetime goal. And that's probably better for Dunks finish, 'cause it's just a kind of I'm gonna go forward and I can't be bothered to do anything with the ball other than shoot. So I'm just gonna have a go. And in it flies. Which felt kind of kind of once in a lifetime.
James Richardson 4:39
Brilliant. Um, well, why don't we have a moment of the week, see if anyone's been doing any tram tours around the continent uh this weekend.
