Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?

0.031 - 10.687 Francis Lam

Hey, it's Francis Lam, host of the Splendid Table podcast. Every week on our show, we celebrate the intersection of food and life. And this month, we're releasing a new series called Culinary Masters.

Chapter 2: What is the Ferrari Luce and why is it significant?

11.248 - 26.191 Francis Lam

It highlights some of the most iconic people in the food world. And we're revisiting conversations with people who have fundamentally changed how many of us cook and think about food. People like Jacques Pepin, Claudia Rodin, and Tony Bourdain, to name a few. You can listen to this special series now.

Chapter 3: What are the ethical concerns surrounding media coverage of the Luce?

26.431 - 28.755 Francis Lam

Just search for the Splendid Table in your podcast app.

31.857 - 38.128 David Pierce

Hello and welcome to The Verge Cast, the flagship podcast of Vox Media. Again, every week.

Chapter 4: Why does the Luce's design differ from traditional Ferraris?

38.449 - 57.021 David Pierce

For the foreseeable future. I'm your friend David Pierce, Nilay Patel is here. What's up? If you haven't been watching this podcast on YouTube recently, I encourage you to watch it once, only for the just unbelievable studio glow up that Nilay continues to undergo.

Chapter 5: How are display technologies evolving in the market?

57.001 - 63.674 Nilay Patel

We added one light on the advice of a video professional instead of me just YOLOing it myself, and now I look incredible.

0

63.794 - 70.648 David Pierce

It's literally, like, it hurts my feelings how good you look. And the people have been noticing. Like, don't get it twisted. The people have been noticing.

0

70.968 - 74.976 Nilay Patel

Every time someone says I look hot, I send it to Becky, and she just says, don't get ahead of yourself.

0

76.238 - 77.381 David Pierce

It's good.

0

Chapter 6: Why are prices of tech products continuing to rise?

77.421 - 94.864 David Pierce

We all need to have our things going for us. We have a lot of stuff to talk about. There's a new Ferrari that I'm confident we're going to spend somewhere between two and three hours having feelings about. Speaking of things that think they're hot but aren't. Neela Patel, the Ferrari Luce of the Verge cast.

0

95.585 - 108.661 David Pierce

We're going to get into that and why that's the meanest thing I've ever said to you in very short order. We got Brendan Carr to talk about. We got a lot of stuff to talk about. Also, real quick, this is the end of a Verge cast era.

Chapter 7: How is AI impacting Google's search functionality?

108.941 - 115.089 David Pierce

As of Monday, we become a daily show, and it's important to me that everybody knows that essentially nothing is going to change.

0

115.129 - 117.051 Nilay Patel

So much of our news lately is like nothing will change.

0

Chapter 8: What are the latest reactions to AI changes in search results?

117.071 - 117.552 Nilay Patel

Yeah.

117.937 - 134.356 David Pierce

We remain the Verge cast. We have a really fun slate of stuff set up for next week. You will see, I promise, how much we are committed to this continuing to be the Verge cast, even as we do more of it and get to move faster and try new things. It's all going to be very exciting. But we remain the Verge cast.

134.797 - 152.963 David Pierce

I've heard some people who are like, David, don't ruin the show, which is also a fun fact. When I joined the Verge, Dieter Bohn... called me and said, David, don't ruin the show. And four years later, I think I've kind of ruined it, but it's, you know, we're doing our best. But in a fun way. Exactly. But let's, let's get to the news.

153.063 - 180.358 David Pierce

I think clearly the story of the week, you would have thought it was the Pope having 42,000 words of feelings about AI, but my guy got it just immediately news bumped by the Ferrari Luce. What is going on in Italy? He asked. What's wrong over there? Everyone has lost their minds in Italy. This is what's happening. So the luce, just to very briefly set the scene here, is Ferrari's first EV.

0

180.778 - 196.881 David Pierce

This is a company that a decade or so ago said it would never do electric cars, that has kind of poo-pooed this whole idea for a very long time, tapped Johnny Ive and his company Love From to do a lot of the design work. This is a big deal for Ferrari, right? I guess, like, let's actually just start there. I think...

196.861 - 204.731 David Pierce

How important is the idea of Ferrari's first EV to the car world in general at this moment?

204.751 - 224.134 Nilay Patel

Five years ago when this started, I think it was very important. In 2026, it is not important. Interesting. Is how I would describe this. Explain. So, you know, I'm not a Ferrari person. Lots of people have lots of feelings about Ferraris. I'm a car person, and I know enough about Ferrari to know that Ferrari has increasingly become...

224.519 - 243.972 Nilay Patel

Like not just a luxury brand, but like a club for rich people to be in. So you can't buy a new Ferrari unless you already have a Ferrari. Like that's just how it works. Like it's becoming increasingly exclusive to own a Ferrari in ways that like some people really don't like. Like Jay Leno is like an enormous car guy.

243.992 - 262.091 Nilay Patel

He doesn't have any Ferraris because he thinks that exclusivity is weird and bad. You can go watch videos of him talking about that at length. The reason all the crypto bros have Lamborghinis is because Ferrari won't sell them Ferraris. Like no amount of money can buy you a Ferrari. Right. It will definitely get you a Lamborghini. And thus we have Lambos.
