But first, like always, we got something to talk about the quarterbacks because I guess this competition is already over on June 8th as we record this. So great job by the Vikings. NFL Network's Tom Pelosero. on Thursday's edition of KFXN's The Power Trip Morning Show, said that Kyler Murray would slowly start to take more first team reps as minicamp begins next week. His exact quote was, I don't know what direction they're going to go as you get closer to the season, but let's say Kyler wins the job. Do you have JJ as the backup? Do you potentially look to trade him while there's some intrigue within the league?
And you might be able to get more for him with two years left on his rookie contract than with one year left. Those are all things you're going to talk through. And of course, if you've been living under a rock, here's what JJ McCarthy has been experiencing since last season ended. He's been thrown in a bogus competition with Kyler Murray, which Murray apparently has already won. He had his moody press conference where he didn't seem angry or like motivated. He was just annoyed. Like, why is this happening to me? And he's already getting to banish to quarterback two or the trade block before it can't begin. So with the information we know, Adam, to the Vikings, just rip the bandaid off and trade JJ McCarthy or what should they do next?
It's very difficult because you want to still invest in a young quarterback because he's 23. He's played 10 games, although he has been injury prone. But I don't know. There's been a lot more chatter within the last week of there being a point of no return. I don't know if that's speculation, if it's educated guessing, if it's reporting. When it comes to Palacero, I think a lot of his stuff, he wouldn't say it if he wasn't given a green light by somebody within the Vikings organization because he has really close ties and he's not going to give those up, especially in his role as a national insider. So when Palacero says something like, do maybe do they trade, you know, McCarthy, I feel like that's kind of like throwing it out there, testing it to see what the reaction is.
And the reaction from Vikings fans, I feel like has been kind of split down the middle where it's been like, Yeah, I don't think it's working. And we should just move on and cut our losses, go with Kyler. If it works out with Kyler, oh well. If it doesn't, we'll keep looking. And then there's the other side that's like, let's keep JJ. He would be a good backup. He's probably going to play next year anyways because Kyler's not going to be healthy all year. Let's keep him around so he can come in and play and get some more experience. So there's that group. But me personally, I have no preference as to what the Vikings do. Do I think it would be wise to trade him sooner rather than later if that's what you want to do?
Yeah, I do. Because the sooner you trade him, the more the focus can be on Kyler Murray being the number one quarterback for this team, which I think everyone assumes it's going to be, but still you just have that lingering... Thing of JJ being around, he's well liked within the locker room.
