Corina is a triathlete who has won Goa Ironman 70.3 in her age category. She is an Ultra runner who has done 24 hour runs and multiple 100k and 100 mile runs. Corina has been trained as a sports coach in the Netherlands, where she was born. She worked for 20 years in mental health using sport as a tool for personal change and the treatment of people with psychiatric and personality disorders. From 2005 onwards, she has worked in Kenya and India on sports for social change programmes. Since 2016, she lives in India working in Mumbai for an NGO called Maitrayana. Corina believes in the power of sport both professionally but also in her private life. She supports girls and women to overcome barriers that keep them from participating in sport. I happened to meet her at the Tata Mumbai Marathon expo when I went there to take part in my first TMM Half Marathon. It was a pleasure sitting down to talk to her about all the great work she is doing using sport as a tool to empower girls and women.
