Hello and welcome to another episode of the Three Books from Hearts and Minds podcast. My name is Bill Giovone with the Coalition for Christian Outreach, the CCO, uh campus ministry where we're transforming college students to transform the world. And with me today from Hearts and Minds Books in Dallastown, Pennsylvania, the host with the most to say about the books you should be reading. Byron Borger Byron, how are you doing today?
I think I'm pretty good today, Phil. It's a beautiful day here in South Central Pennsylvania. Is it nice over there where you are?
It's just gorgeous. I'm always tempted to record outside, but I know that would just stuff So yes, it's absolutely gorgeous today.
You uh you love the fall. And uh beginning to get into the spice, the apple spice, pumpkin spice stuff. Um, so it's exciting. Here it is, September already, and I've got some great books to tell uh folks about uh who are listening in here today.
Well, that's great. I mean, don't get me distracted with pumpkin spice, cause I love pumpkin spice, pumpkin pie, everything. I made my wife homemade pumpkin syrup to put into chai lattes. I mean, I am I'm all in when it comes to pumpkin spice. So here I went off anyway on a tangent. Byron, bring us back. What do you have for us today?
Well, I don't know if they had uh pumpkins in um in first century Judea. Or if Jesus would know pumpkin spice. But I'm gonna talk about three books about Jesus. Um we work, as you know, uh as uh most listeners I guess know for the CCO of the Coalition for Christian Outreach. Uh Beth and I worked for the CCO back in the seventies when we worked at a branch campus of Penn State University. Um, and uh the CCO often takes young adults willing to raise their own funds to serve on campuses, doing campus evangelism and so forth. Um, and they partner with local churches. So I was at a Presbyterian church in the town of McKeesport and hanging around with college students for a couple of years. And then I went into the main office and we created this Jubilee conference.
Uh Beth worked in the main office for a while. And then in the early 80s, we came back here to central Pennsylvania and opened our bookstore. So we've had a bookstore here now for 40-some years, but we still are affiliated with CCO, who you fill, of course, worked for. I'm not saying anything new to you, but for any listeners in there, the this uh wonderful podcast is uh uh organized by the CCO. And we hope some of their staff are listening in. But we know a lot of people that are listening in are Friends of Hearts and Minds bookstore. So we're glad you're here no matter what. And uh, sometimes we talk about campus ministry on the air, but mostly I think we're today going to talk about books that I know the CCO loves because CCO is all about the person of Jesus.
They're about the narrative of the whole Bible from Genesis to Revelation, from creation to New creation. But of course, the pinnacle of that drama of scripture as the redemptive promises of God unfold is in the person of Jesus, born of Mary. taught in d in uh in Judea. Um You know, killed Resurrected, ascended. And so Jesus reigns at the right hand of the Father, as that beautiful hymn in Colossians one says, so that he might have preeminence in all things, because all things were made by him anyway.
