What is the main focus of the episode and why was it recorded early?
Oh
Hello and welcome to the TFO football podcast. I'm Joe Devine, and today I'm delighted to be joined by Sebastian Stafford Blor. Hello, Joe Devine. Hi buddy, how's it going? It's good. I've had a coffee and a Red Bull. Yes, I can't believe you drank a Red Bull. I think it might should be illegal for people over the age of forty to drink Red Bull. Yeah, so Joe also
So uh whilst I deflect from your barbs, um so we said it was delayed. David Ornstein, our friend David Ornstein, yeah, has just reported that the game is due to go ahead as scheduled. How about that? At one AM UK time. Okay, good news. Yeah. That's great.
Well at the moment. I was about to tell people any I'll quickly introduce Kaya. Hi. And John's also here. Hello. Uh our plan for this evening, and incidentally if you're listening to us the next day, this will be fun for you. Uh our plan for this evening was to uh as usual do a watch along for the England Mexico game and do a podcast afterwards. We've uh we've just w sat down and watched the the the Brazil uh Norway game. We've read a few reports that there's a possible uh that the England Mexico game could be delayed due to the weather. And so we thought we gotta get something out this evening. We thought instead of instead of waiting around and doing nothing, we would record a bit of a podcast now about uh well, what do we talk about on today's show?
We're gonna talk about Norway's win over Brazil. Uh we're gonna talk about uh Followin' Balogun's red card ban suspended for a whole year. We're gonna talk about that a little bit. Uh and we're gonna play a rondo halfway through as well. So it's slightly uh truncated, shorter podcast uh for today. If the England game goes ahead as normal, uh we plan to do Well watch along, we plan to do a like a very short podcast afterwards to talk about uh England. And if it's delayed, then at least we can publish this one. And that's our thinking. Did I explain that fairly?
Fairly. I don't know about fairly. Do you explain that
fairly well? Fairly well, yes. Definitely fairly well. Do you want to hear something exciting, Seb? Always. It's four minutes to midnight, and do you know what happens to John at midnight? Does he become sulky? He no. The opposite. He becomes the goblin king. That's what we've established during the World Cup so far. Is his inner troll emerges around midnight. So if we have any serious tactical questions, we need to get them to him in the next three and a half minutes.
But does does he does he lose the ability to answer tactical questions after midnight? I
don't know, ask him. He still has the capacity Still has the capacity
in a different personality, but you would still retain the same knowledge and you would still be you with your brain and your big nerdiness.
It's hard to know. I mean, my body gets taken up by an entirely different spirit to the one that usually inhabits it. So we'll have to find out, I guess. We'll see. We'll wait and see.
What happens in three minutes time. Okay, so th there you go. For uh for for today's podcast, we're gonna talk about Brazil, Norway, and we're gonna talk about uh the the USA. Uh so after uh a bit of time later on, someone will add music to this pause.
Yes, there we go. Brazil won to Norway. How about that? Norway threw to the quarterfinals for the first time in the country's history and will face the winners of Mexico, England.
How did Norway manage to beat Brazil and reach the quarter‑finals?
Hopefully, when you're listening to this, you will you will know who that is. We don't know as we are recording. Uh an Erling Holland Brace was uh enough in in order to win that game. And now also puts him on seven goals alongside uh Mbappe and Messi in a very exciting golden boot race. Uh Norway also helped by a first half penalty save against a Bruno Gimraesh uh penalty. Uh and then Neymar converted a consolation penalty right at the end of the game. So we are going to talk about Brazil, for whom it's been uh quite a disappointing World Cup. But let's start uh with Norway and let's start with the game. John, what do you think happened? You were quite invested in this one.
