So France 2, Morocco 0. France are the first side into the semi-finals following their 2-0 win over Morocco in Boston. Kylian Mbappe managed to shake off his first half penalty miss to give France the lead with a wonderful finish. Ousmane Dembele then scored the second not too long after that and that was enough to see France through where they will face the winners of Spain against Belgium. John, tell us, Morocco... What went on? They were without Ismail Sabahri. He was missing through injury and it did feel as though they didn't really have much of a threat.
Yeah, and then they were without a few other players who haven't been available for the tournament. We mentioned a few of them during the live stream. I'm thinking in particular of Abdeh Ezzalzouli, who got injured in, I think, maybe the game before the World Cup, one of the warm-up games. So he's a real miss for them. Also, Naif Agherd, who we know from his time at West Ham. And I think as a result of that, their squad just really wasn't suited for a game like this. And you could almost see it through the ebb and flow of the game. I think at the beginning, they sort of tried to come out a little bit against France and France dominated the first 10 minutes. They realised that they probably weren't going to be able to take the game to France and press up on them.
And so they sort of fell back into a bit of a deeper position. block and then the question was like how many players are we going to commit forward and the answer to that was well we're not going to commit many players forward and not going to create much at all and I guess as the game went by they sort of tried to commit more of those players forward but France basically were just in the driving seat for most of the game there's a penalty miss but then those two goals really I think were well deserved in the end and France were able to just cruise to the finish line.
