Chapter 1: What led to Tony Gonzalez dropping out of the race?
Late last night, we got massive news that Tony Gonzalez would be dropping out of the race following this whole affair scandal and suicide scandal where a staffer that he was having an affair with died by self-immolation, which means Brandon Herrera, the AK guy, the gun tuber is 99% chance he is now going to be Texas 23's member of Congress.
And I got to tell you exactly why this is so absolutely important. Brandon Herrera is not a stodgy, suit-wearing, pencil-neck, establishment, rhino kind of guy. He is an actual, authentic human being. And we've been rooting for him for some time because we need more members of Congress who are
actual, authentic, real human beings, people that come from the real world, that can relate to actual people, that can communicate effectively with real people, and not just be another guy in a suit who showed up with donors. The establishment machine says, we're going to get you the money, you're going to be the guy.
Now, I want to stress to everybody, we're going to go through all the news, I know, I'm just really excited. Don't expect ā and I mean this with all respect to Brandon Herrera.
Chapter 2: Why is Brandon Herrera considered an authentic candidate?
I'm really excited. We're going to have him on the show soon and a big fan. Don't expect him to change the world, right? I'm a fan of Thomas Massey, but I'm also critical of Thomas Massey. I call him my favorite member of Congress, but you're going to have to ā look, everybody gets criticisms, right?
I think Brennan Herrera is going to be a tremendous, tremendous net positive and the direction we need to go in this country with getting these incumbents out. People like Tony G, who voted in favor of gun restrictions, like irrational ones. You can't play politics.
We need people who are going to stick to their principles, tell you what they believe, why they believe it, and offer up true representation of the people. And so that's what...
Chapter 3: What criticisms exist regarding Tony Gonzalez's political actions?
We are getting right now. And it is rather shocking to me, I must admit, that people were still willing to vote for Tony Gonzalez despite the whole scandal, which I know many of you are already familiar with, but we'll go over again. And so I've got the statements here from both Tony Gonzalez and Brandon Herrera. And I just want to stress one more time.
Well, I don't expect Brandon to get in and be the greatest member of Congress. Well, actually, he probably is going to be one of the best, if not the best member of Congress. I'm not even joking. More people like him. But there's a handful that I can definitely shout out. Of course, Thomas Massey, I'm a big fan.
Chapter 4: How does Brandon Herrera's victory impact Texas 23?
Riley Moore, huge fan. He's a friend. He represents us here in West Virginia, and he's one of the best. Like, when something comes up, you can talk to this guy. He'll tell you exactly what's going on. It doesn't... Look... A lot of these people in Congress, men and women, you know that they're playing dirty games. They're speaking out of one side of their mouths. We need more real people.
And unfortunately, you got like one or two on the Democrat side.
Chapter 5: What are the implications of having more relatable politicians?
And you maybe have like 10 to 13 on the Republican side. But if we can, and Democrats, I'm calling on y'alls as well, get rid of these machine state incumbents, we might actually get some stuff done. I also want to stress, we need people who are a little bit chill on culture war issues. And I'm not saying to not have culture war issues.
I'm saying we need... I'm going to shout out Cenk Uygur of the Young Turks. And I want you to hear me because I know a lot of people don't like the guy. But at least, at least, he says, can we find the overlap where we agree and implement those policies and then keep arguing about the things we don't like? And he is correct. 100%. If we can sit down...
Chapter 6: What challenges do incumbents face in the current political climate?
With the people that we have arguments over, look, we're never going to agree with these moderate libs on guns, but maybe the far left, they love guns, right? Though they don't want you to have them because you're on the right, at least we'll all get to have guns. But there are policies and issues we probably would largely agree on pertaining to foreign policy. So if we can...
Come together and sit down with a progressive populist and then we can be like, listen, we know where we're going to rip each other's throats out, but let's pass these things that we all really like that the machine state is blocking us from getting. And there's a litany of issues, but the easiest one, of course, is funding and foreign policy and giving other countries money that we could use.
And be it the progressive who thinks we should have free health care or the conservative who thinks we should have a more robust federal law enforcement apparatus. We can disagree on those things and argue about it after we cut off funding to foreign countries and their wars. And I know that everybody we're going to agree. So anyway.
Chapter 7: How do cultural issues affect political representation?
Let's read the news and jump into this. I'm super excited. Excited is an understatement. You know, I just want to say this. Last night during Timcast, I had a family emergency. It was, you know, it's a scare. It happens. And everything's okay. We ended up ā I don't want to get too much into the personal issue, but I had to leave the show. I had to run off the show.
Chapter 8: What future actions are expected from Brandon Herrera?
I got a text message about a family emergency. And these things have happened before. It happens to everybody. And so I didn't see the news. I'm dealing with this family emergency. It's a health issue, but everything was okay. And I wake up in the morning.
And I see just the internet is blowing up with these posts because you got to understand Texas 23 is R plus seven, meaning it skews Republican and it is expected to be a Republican victory no matter what. Not to mention Brandon Herrera was already popular in the district and he was in 2024, he lost the primary by less than 400 votes and we were cheering for him. He actually won the
the primary majority, the plurality, but not the majority. And in order to avoid a runoff, you need to win the majority. So what had happened was Brandon Herrera did defeat Gonzalez by sheer numbers, but not enough to overcome a runoff. They both advanced to runoff. And I expressed, I was shocked that Tony Gonzalez was still going to stay in the race considering everything that's going on.
And this scandal is nuts. And then sure enough, he drops out. And I want to, I want to give him some credit. I don't know too much to say about him other than, you know, the gun control stuff and some of the other light criticisms. I'm not from Texas 23, and this guy's not really a focus of, you know, my work. I'm in the Beltway, basically.
But likely it has come up, and there have been deep criticisms of him from the populist or MAGA coalitions. But I want to stress to Tony G, dropping out, 100% respect, It is the right thing to do. Everybody makes mistakes, but it is honorable to bow out and say we're just going to walk from this one. And I think it's also because he realized he's not going to win.
So to save himself the defeat come May 28th, here's what he said. At 18, I swore an oath to defend our nation against all enemies, foreign and domestic. During my 20 years in the military and three terms in Congress, I have fought for that cause with absolute dedication to the country that I love.
From overcoming the border crisis to taking a stand with my communities after the worst school shooting in Texas' history, my philosophy has never changed. Do as much as you can and always fight for the greater good.
After deep reflection and with the support of my loving family, I've decided not to seek reelection while serving out the rest of this Congress with the same commitment I've always had to my district. Through the rest of my term, I will continue fighting for my constituents for whom I am eternally grateful.
And I also want to stress my gratitude that, excuse me, despite the fact that I have some disagreements and heavily, heavily prefer Brandon Herrera, It is respectable and honorable that he will stay in and finish out the remainder of his term. We can't we can't risk losing any anybody in Congress. It's a thin majority majority at all.
