In this week’s podcast episode, we’re talking about how to make new friends as adults and how to create long lasting beyond superficial friendships. The experts I have on today are two friends in my life who have an abnormally large and deep friendship fabric that surrounds their lives. Sima Schloss, a mixed media artist and adjunct professor, aged 52, is an example of someone who continues to grow her close friends during a time when most people have downsized their relationships. Every time there is a special occasion gathering, I am always meeting new friends of Sima’s that she’s picked up each year of her life. Cennet Kocak, an IRS auditor, aged 38 has deep close friendships that extend before her college years and she continues to develop close friendships in her life and community. A year ago at her birthday party (not even a milestone one), there were 75 people (and not superficial friends) invited where one even flew in from Florida. Friends show up for her in response to the way she does for them. I chose these two for this interview because I have observed the depth and breath of their friendships and I wanted to dig a little deeper into what they do as advice and tips for the rest of us so that we can age with a deep and true community around us.
