Every day I see a cloud. We had lovely cool weather where I was last night. I felt positively September-y. So yeah. But yeah, that was a struggle night, the heat for the last weeks.
Male menopause then. The only explanation for me. OK, so as you get into these last few weeks, you're ticking off the checklist, double checking, making sure you have all of you need for the first few weeks to make things as easy as possible, because you're not going to know up from down, left from right, day from night and all of that. And you're giving yourself, as we have said, the additional burden of doing all of this with sustainability in mind. So what is at the forefront of your mind?
I'd actually even counter the additional burden. It's been such a lovely community buzz for us because everyone from our family to our friends have stepped up, even neighbours popping across, donating changing tables to us or clothes, like lovely, lovely hand-me-downs from their children that they've grown out of now. So it's been a huge financial burden relieved in that regard and it's saved us going out to find a lot of things as well. So we have a lovely big pile of bits now to get through and kind of then just fill in the gaps ourselves. So that's been fantastic at what is a very expensive time today.
It absolutely is. And it's a win-win for everybody because they get clear attic space and you get to save a few quid.
And they're thrilled. Everyone's loving when they can do something a little bit sustainable as well. There's that kind of like positive snobbery about it now. They're like, oh yeah, I passed that honour. Oh, I got that second hand, you know.
People love to brag about their little sustainability bits now, which is incredible. So yeah, that's really fantastic. And then beyond that, if people don't have a really strong community around them as well, there are lots of other ways to get that. So there's free cycle groups in all areas across Ireland as well, which are brilliant for passing on bundles of baby clothes and different things like that. There's also an app called Oleo. So that's one where you can pop on. I was having a little scan on there last night. There's loads of things that are free, but there's also loads of things that cost next to nothing. So whether it's your lovely little cribs or your baby bundles for different clothes, all sorts of different things, down to breastfeeding, all sorts of contraptions and things like that.
Those are all on all of these sites now. And even Vintage, your Depops, all of your secondhand apps. There's people selling everything.
all sorts of things related to baby boots dare I say you can nearly fill your entire hospital bag second hand I've seen all sorts of things you wouldn't even imagine being sold absolutely brand new because people do what we do when we're prepping for something like this they buy too much and then they look to pass on the excess This is the easy stuff because the big problem is of course nappies and you will get to that point where you'll be saying to yourself ah here should anybody even be having babies anymore with the amount of waste that's generated with nappies how are you solving this one
