Triple M Rocks Footy AFL
FRIDAY HUDDLE | Sam Mitchell, Browny's Ad Campaign, Howie The Dancer
29 May 2026
Chapter 1: What headlines are discussed in this week's Friday Huddle?
You've had a long week. What would you say you do here? One day rolls into another. It's not that I'm lazy. It's that I just don't care. But you made it. Woohoo! And now, the fun begins. One, two, three, four! Mark Howard. Woo, I like it. Jason Dunstall. Better than ever. Nathan Brown. I'm your man. And Damien Barrett. I'm in demand. Driving you home on the best day of the week.
Woo!
This is Triple M's Friday Huddle.
Oh, what a magnificent week it has been. Hopefully that has been the case for you. And it only gets better as three hours of power comes your way on the Friday Huddle. Guests, we have them. Sam Mitchell to join us after the Hawks. Well, they kept St Kilda goalless in the first half last night. All the segments you know and love and all the boys you know and love. And I look across at this man.
It just fills me with happiness every time I see him. Damien Barrett, hello to you, Damo. And you, likewise me, Howard. And it's always great to gather together on this Friday and spend the next couple of hours with mates. Exactly right. Saw this man last night at halftime.

Chapter 2: What happened during Chief's scare at the MCG?
He called the socks off the Hawks on the Triple M format last night. Hello to you, Noodle. Not much of a game, was it, to be honest, last night? It was eight goals to none. It was over. So it was a pretty ordinary Thursday night. Hopefully we get a better one tonight, the Geelong Footy Club against the Blues. And always good to see you blokes. I love Chief. I love it when he's in black.
He looks thin. He looks fit at the moment. He's dropped 16 kilos. He says he's not an Olympic, but I seem to wonder, is he? Easy injecting himself to get this thing. We'll talk about the enhanced games later. I look at the Chief. He's never been in better form. He's got the white Archie thong on. I think he's got a new short on today. I think he's got a new crisp grey sort of dress short.
Looks very nice. A black Adidas t-shirt and a DAZN black hat as well. He's never been in better form, the Chief. And that's for a man that's kicked 1,254 goals and used to kick 100 easily. Hello, Chieftain. Hello, Howie. We know where our bread's buttered. That's the design cap.
Don't worry about that.
They're doing a great job. My word we do. My word we do. Damo, I presume you're going to talk footy in the 404. I will be. That's how this show rolls. Okay. Just briefly, what did we think of the Hawks last night? I thought the Hawks were outstanding. Look, they're going to be very hard to beat when it comes to finals. So they don't want for anything at the moment.
Very good defensively, especially when they get Barris back. Through the middle of the ground, they roll Watson through there and their forward half of the ground is unbelievable at the moment. So I am full chips in on Hawks being a top four side and really rattling some cages come September.
Chief, you were your normal confident self when I saw you in the Fox meeting yesterday when I said, what about the Hawks? And you gave me a typically direct answer, but They got the job done last night. They did. I'm certainly not in Nathan's camp.
Of course you're not.
I'm not chipsy and I'm not confident. I thought it was an ordinary game. I thought the Hawks played okay.

Chapter 3: What insights are shared about the Enhanced Games?
There has. Yeah. Look, it rained yesterday and the roof was open. Okay. And it does have a tendency once night settles, regardless of roof being open or shut, to get damp. It's not ideal because there were patches, according to the players who played the game, that were drier than others.
And obviously when you get an injury out of it, as a serious one to Flanders is the case, I don't expect anything to come of it that in a complaint sense, but not ideal. No. All right. Time for...
These are the Friday Huddle's favourite headlines. Two breaking news. Returning now to this morning's top story. It's 4-4 from the last 24.
This is the day out, man. He's going to do something different. He's going to do something zany. He's going to go international. He's not going to talk about football today. You know, as part of my contract, you took AFL off the top of our show and you've already taken some of it, Howard, with the review of the Hawthorne St Kilda. I tried to suck a bit up so you'd have to do something different.
I thought that's why you weren't doing it. But you probably missed the lead. Which was? Will Day returning. Yes. That was the big storyline, I feel, Brownie, just to get his first game of football into the system. And a very, very careful build-up from what was his latest injury. And as we know, he's missed the final series of last year and 2024 with feet problems.
He's had shoulder problems as well. And it just was really ā he looked rusty. And he's going to take some time. I'd imagine he might even miss games or be rested out of certain games. But he, in my eyes, is by some way their best player. He goes hard, doesn't he? First game back and he left nothing in the tank when it came to body contact.
And that kick that he gave to Gunston where it just the outside of the boot and it drifted away from the defender was outstanding. And I love the way they managed him. They didn't play him too often. Too much, I mean, game time. And I love the way that they had Gunston last night to just get him off the ground. Yeah. Done his job.
His job is later on in the season and make sure he's fit and firing. And then for the second consecutive week, Blake Hardwick standing up to kick four goals, all in the last quarter, but that's two weeks in a row he's kicked four. So they've got options down there, and I think they're just doing everything right. I know Chief has still got some reservations, but I feel they've done well.
They've suggested to me they've done enough to finish top four, which is a key part of what they're going to do. The other big story of the week, though, Harry, was the fact that there's now three clubs seeking a new coach. And obviously Essendon moving on on Brad Scott two weeks after Carlton parted with Michael Voss.

Chapter 4: What advice does Howie seek for his date night?
And the way the authorities treated him so leniently. Hang on. Hang on. Sorry, Damo. I know you're making a sale him point. I can't cop him and I do like Italians. And I want to move to Italy was the next thing you were going to say. I love Italy. At some point I will move to Italy with Christina once the kids are all grown up. Or he'll be on the run in Italy with the bazooka.
What if Sin is your next door neighbour? What are you going to do then? Now, you know, I love my cricket and I brought two men, one to your attention this year and one last year. Yes. The one last year was a young man from Geelong by the name of Ollie Peake. Tomorrow, Australia plays Pakistan over in Pakistan. There's three one-dayers. He's on the tour.
I reckon they'll pick him at some stage in the three one days. And if he gets a game, Chief, he'll be the youngest Australian one-day cricketer of all time. So good luck. He's 19. That's exciting, isn't it? So good luck to Ollie. Absolutely. But he's getting old in the tooth. Because my man, the 15-year-old Chief, and you burst into fox luck. You were that excited. So my man, Vaibhav Srinivasan.
That's a different pronunciation to the last time you raised his name. Well, last time I butchered it. Three goes at this. Last time I butchered it. Go again, please. So when you're at the IPL and you're a bit unsure about the name, what you do, as you say, you mumble and take your mouth away from the mic. This is the way you do it. Big hip, Ashurnavashi, and on the crowd are up.
So his name is Ashurnavashi. He is playing in the first final of the IPL. It's a knockout final. Now, I just want you to get your head around these numbers. He's playing Patrick Cummins, one of the greatest fast bowlers Australia has ever produced. He has, well, Pat's got none for 64 from his four. This is what he's done three balls in a row to Patrick Cummins.
Straight back down the ground again. He's putting on a show, this young man, Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Now over third. Push the ropes back. slammed again he is toying with one of the greats of our game at the moment
97 of 29 balls. He said his name a lot better than you did. He did, but he's Harsha Bogle and he's the guru. I just want to give you a few more stats. So he passed Gale for the most sixes in a season. He's hit 65 sixes this season. But the numbers, so of the top seven run scorers, he's number one with 680 runs. So he's in front of the world's best. He's 15. He's made the most runs in the IPL.
Of the top seven, the second best strike rate, is 182, Chief. His strike rate is 242. So he's averaging with a strike rate 60 more than anyone else. His numbers are absolutely extraordinary. Chief, they play a series of T20s against Ireland in June. They've got to pick the kid. And we think he's 15. Chief, I'm telling you.
How old is he? He's 15?

I choose not to dance.

In 2017, who was sacked as Leicester manager just a year after leading them to a shock?
I'm afraid of dancing. I just watched the Vardy documentary. Coach Chelsea as well. Too long. Five, four, three, two, one. Anyone else? No, no chance for this one. Really? Watch the Jamie Vardy doco. It's outstanding. Claudio Ranieri. Come on, boys. And you like Italians, mate. I do. Question six. What's the score, please, Howie? Howie's two.
Nate's hit the score and Damo's just wasting space in the corner. I am today. Question six. Who coached Collingwood to flags in 1953 and... I'm afraid of dancing.
Howie.
