Well, as expected, we saw Apple reveal its very first foldable iPhone. The surprise was it wasn't called the iPhone Ultra, which we thought it was, but when you think about it. Samsung had just l named one of their foldable phones six weeks earlier, the iPhone 8 Ultra. So I don't know whether Samsung, whether i Apple had Duo locked in uh for a a long time or they just suddenly sh changed gears late in the piece, but iPhone Duo it is, and I suppose duo, there's two screens, front screen, inside screen, not too bad. And And I gotta say, before we go into how expensive this is gonna be and the international pricing, I've done a bit of research here for you guys. So let's talk about the device and and typical Apple, amazing, uh, amazing looking product.
Now I I I've only seen videos. I unfortunately wasn't invited to the Apple launch this time around, so I didn't have a chance to get a hands on look at it. But they had, of course, seven years to look at Samsung's releases before pulling the trigger on their own. And I I I if you listen to two blokes talking tech, we've been discussing this for months. And I my call was that it was going to be expensive. I was right. The every app and the and iOS was going to be absolutely tailor-made for the foldable, and I was right. And all those little things, those little features that Apple products that that are included with Apple products that surprise and delight customers were all there as well. The first one, the first one I saw was the animation as you were opening the device and closing it again.
Sort of like uh you were sort of seeing through it was like that the it was like the the front of the the phone, you could see through it as it was becoming the inside of the phone. And that's typical Apple, that that sort of animation and that little touch, that little finish to something as simple as just opening up the phone. Of course that had to be accompanied with a little bit of uh a little bit of fanfare, let's call it. And of course, the software as well, iOS 27, and not iPad OS. I've been I heard an interview with Craig Federighi um uh talking to Marquez Brownley, the the tech uh video reviewer, and he was uh the YouTuber. And he was telling him that no, it's not iPad OS, it is Mac O, it is sorry, it's iOS 27 all the way.
Adjusted, of course. But one thing uh that that I really like about the fact is that uh Apple Pencil is uh able to be used for the first time on an iPhone. And this is this is a feature and I I am gonna be it's it's inevitable there's gonna be some comparisons between the Galaxy Fold Z Fold 8, which is similar passport shaped foldable that was introduced in July to the duo. So forgive me for comparing them because I think it's pretty it's it's pretty much inevitable. Uh Samsung used to have uh S Pen compatibility on I think they took it out, they took it off on the iPhone, the sorry iPhone, the the Z Fold 6, I believe. I think it was on the five or maybe the four, but it was there for a couple of years.
There was nowhere you could store the S-Pen apart from you buy a special case and plug it into the back of the case. But Samsung had that and then took it away.
