What is the main message of the episode’s opening and how does it set the tone?
You're not alone. You really have guidance and support available to you. So for all those people that are sitting there in silos that are frustrated with life and and they feel like they could use a friend. They are there with you. You just need to open up to it.
Hello and welcome to Uncorking a Story. I'm your host, Mike Carlin, and today I'm joined by Catherine Marie. Catherine is an author who writes spiritual books for everyday life. With a background in computer technology, she spent decades balancing logic with lived experience and brings a clear, practical perspective to topics often wrapped in mystery or mysticism. Rather than presenting spirituality as something distant or theoretical, Catherine focuses. On practical awareness and those quiet inner nudges that people already experience but don't always trust. Her latest book, High Five Your Spirit Guides, is a hand-on guide to connecting with your intuition and building a relationship with your spiritual allies.
Welcome to Uncorking a Story, Catherine.
Thank you very much. I'm excited to be here. This should be fun.
Yeah, I'm excited to have you here, Catherine. I'm really curious about your work and uh but I'm also curious about where your story as an author begins. So where where does your story as an author begin, Catherine?
Well, I'll be honest with you right out of the gate. I never in a million years thought I would write a book about spiritual self help, especially spirit guides. Uh I have written fiction in the past, so I've dabbled in writing for a while. Uh and then I had some interesting experiences where I became much more spiritual and spirit guides kinda introduced themselves to me and I was I hate to say the word told, but I was led to believe that I should write this book and they helped me do it. So here we are.
Well, you you're not the first person to uh tell me that something other than themselves or something other than their consciousness has uh encouraged them or propelled them to writing something. I've had a few people tell me that, but you you sort of gave me a little clue there saying you've had some interesting experiences earlier in your life. Tell me about those experiences.
Mostly in the last couple of years. I mean in my in my childhood I had an imaginary friend. I've always kind of had a great sixth sense basically or sense of intuition that's been very strong. I've been very lucky, had a blessed life. But in the last couple of years, things have started moving forward. Uh I went on a road trip. And went to Sedona and had a true awakening. Uh saw a psychic, all kinds of things happen there. And then I came across a book that just kind of fell into my lap and it was very eye opening. Uh so it just was a number of small events that built up to one big event that let me know that I was supposed to write a book different than anything I've written before.
Interesting. I'm I'm curious about the imaginary friend thing. And and and I and I and I am because I have a twin brother named Jim and he tells me, you know, we're fifty one years old, about to be fifty two. And I know y it's hard to believe. I look so youthful. But Yeah. He tells me when we were kids that I had an imaginary he remembers me having an imaginary friend. And I'd have no recollection of this. He's like, Yeah, Mike, you had an imaginary friend. His name was Frederico. Zero awareness, zero memory recall of this. Do you remember anything about your imaginary friend? Or is this something like your your parents told you you had or?
I remember I remember my imaginary friend to to some degree, but of course I also remember from my parents telling me about it. But yes, at the time my imaginary friend was named was Joey. And I knew exactly where Joey lived. We drove drove by this building. often, it seems like, and I would always tell them that's where Joey lives. And I just was able to go on walks with Joey. We played games together. I it it was a very Very real presence in my life. Like a real person was there.
Do you remember at what point in time in your life that Joey just stopped talking to you or just kinda stopped being there?
