Chapter 1: What chapters of the Dresden Files are covered in this episode?
This is an unspoiled network podcast. This is unspoiled, covering the Dresden Files, book 18, 12 months, counter to what some folks in the live may see on their screen, chapters 43, 44, and 45. In these chapters... Harry gets a little present from Michael. Mister approves.
Chapter 2: What unexpected gift does Harry receive from Michael?
Summons Mab for a chat. Goes super well. Not sarcastic when I'm saying that. And then, protesters. Counter-protesters.
Chapter 3: How does Harry's meeting with Mab go?
It's all a mix of good and bad. Welcome to Unspoiled.
Bye. Bye. Bye.
Welcome to the show, everyone. I am Natasha. I'm Rashawn. Okay, so you could have been forgiven for jumping in and forgetting that we weren't in the episode as well because that was a very long intro. Luckily for you, I'm very tired, so I didn't even have the energy to jump in.
What did you think of this episode? I really enjoyed these chapters. I'm just going to come off the bat, you guys. I... I'm as conflicted and turned around as Harry is about dealing with these protesters.
I thought about that for so long because both Bear and Will and everyone else who recognizes that this is a problem that should have been dealt with when it was much smaller should not have been allowed to get any bigger. But then how do you do that? What was Harry supposed to do to those people?
And Harry's like, his intense empathy for their situation, that they were scared, they've been traumatized, they've lost loved ones, is so fucking valid. But it, but, fucking but, they have turned that into something ugly. You know, that fear and that trauma make them need to scapegoat or find who's responsible and other them and, you know, get rid of them, push them out.
And that's not what you want to do. I am so torn. And I know this is going to be a fucking thing. And I feel like somebody's going to look at Dresden and be like, see? They already did it a little bit. Yeah. You should have fucking nipped this in the bud. You know, now you let it grow.

Chapter 4: What challenges does Harry face with the protesters?
And I just, I don't know what to do. I really don't. I was trying very hard not to do the thing where you try to make everything in the book a parallel to what's going on in the world, right? Try very hard not to do that.
Chapter 5: What role do the counter-protesters play in the narrative?
Yeah. But I would be lying if I didn't say I was thinking about how we are currently protesting, how protesting is being met by the state. Yeah. In most cases, and it's very, very, very ugly. They're protesting at that facility in New Jersey, at Delaney, where the hunger strike is going on.
Chapter 6: How does Harry feel about his new living situation?
Yep.
And they are being absolutely fucking brutal. for no reason with these people that are trying to protest for the protection of the people that are in custody and the fair treatment, not even fair treatment, just fucking better than the squalor they're getting, you know? Um, and so it's, it was, it was, I, it was tough.
And I know that this is like, there's more to talk about, but I, um, I desperately wanted to come up with something where I could say, I think Harry should do this. And I couldn't, Like I couldn't come up with it like a everything. It's like what Mab says, right? Like Mab tells Harry, I know I'm jumping ahead.
She can do these things, but even she can't see what the ultimate ramifications will be. Yeah. Of these actions that Harry is asking her to take. Right. I can't guarantee that this won't bite you in your ass is what she's saying. Yeah. And that's kind of, That's kind of with everything. Not just deals with Mab. Not just Harry.
We don't know how our choices in this moment are going to boomerang back on us in some manner. you know, a minute later, a year later, 10 years later, you know, that person that you were shitty to that one time is the person that's interviewing for the job you want. And you walk in and there they are like that kind of our story, you know? Yeah. Um, But anyway, I really enjoyed these chapters.
There was a lot for me to think about.
It makes me think of this tweet I saw the other day, which was, I screamed at a guy on the street who stepped in front of me and such and such. And then I went to a job interview. And guess who was interviewing me? Not the guy that I screamed at. Therefore, I learned nothing and I will continue to be an asshole to everybody.
That's fucking fantastic. That is a thing of beauty. Jesus Christ. It wasn't him.
I learned nothing. It's just always so funny to me when it's like, only be nice in case somebody has power over you eventually. Like, well, can we just learn about the fact that maybe we shouldn't endorse state sanctioned violence because maybe one day we will be held by the state and they will have power over us. And so we don't want to make it that this is normal.

Chapter 7: What boon does Harry decide to ask from Mab?
But, you know, it's just not... People can't ever see themselves in a position where they would be brutalized in that way. It would never happen to me.
I'm a good, law-abiding citizen. What do you mean?
I'm a citizen. Which is like the end statement for a lot of them.
Sweeney, I have some bad news gestures to all of American history.
Right? Like, you know, if you're going to not have due process, how exactly do you prove that you're, like, how are you going to prove you're a citizen? Indeed! You know, if they're not... You know what that process does?
What?
It proves the thing that you're over here telling me right now that they won't care a fuck about because they aren't going to be listening and will probably render you unconscious. Whatever.
Or shoot you in the fucking face. But no, but I know I talked a lot about just that specific thing, but it really got me thinking.
I completely get it. Like, this was something that I... I was very much like in Bear's headspace where she's just getting more and more like, dude, we got to deal with this. We got to deal with this. What are you doing? We are going to him being like, if it goes left. And she's like, when? When?

Chapter 8: What are the implications of Harry's decisions on his relationships?
The very first opportunity I get. Definitely. All right. So let's start at the beginning. Chapter 42. Spring sprang a bit early. And We have this... The whole conversation... Or no, sorry, 43. I was going to say... I was like, spring sprang a bit early. I was like, what? That's not... That's not right. Yeah, 43. So I think I probably did in my intro the wrong chapters. Guys, I'm sorry.
For some reason, me fucking with my chapter breakdown, I don't know what happened, but my fucking attempts to correct the breakdown yesterday... I like got notified that I did it wrong because somebody was like, these chapters are already covered. And when I tell you I had been on the phone, like doing my morning meeting with Candace on Monday and going, why can't I do this breakdown? Yeah.
There's a listener who is commissioning books of the dungeon crawler, Carl, and he has gotten the chapter breakdowns wrong a few times. And he's like, God, I am so bad at this. And I was like, it's, I can't tell you how little I hold this against you. I completely get it. I don't even know that you're bad at it as much as it's harder than people think it is. I would imagine.
It's just a really weirdly tricky, stupid thing. Anyway, 43. Fitz stood in the practice range in the castle's basement. That's where we're at.
Okay.
And there is a... There's a target that looks like the costume that Harry wears to Bianca's ball in book three, essentially.
Also giving very much the vampire from Supernatural that you made the postcard. I wanted Harry to have this vampire riding a scooter. Yeah, that would have been pretty fun.
A moving target. That's an extra challenge. Maybe that'll be the next level up after he gets this down.
and then he has it going blah blah blah in the little bubble blah blah blah alright I guess sure that's funny that really tickled me yeah and Fitz is being put on the spot like you know now go and Fitz is like I don't get a chance to warm up and Harry gives him the old in the real world there's no time for stretching and warming up you gotta be ready to go
