Uh I think one of the more impressive innings by an Australian male batter in the last twelve months, I'm gonna say, across formats.
A and this is significant as Renshaw is going to open the batting for Australia in the series against South Africa. You want a tour to start on the right foot, and this feels very much like the right foot.
Oh, absolutely. Especially for someone who's gonna probably batten the most difficult Spot um alongside I guess Travis Head for now, uh at the top of the order again. uh some gun or South African bowlers in what you know, I'm I'm interested in seeing what the conditions will be like. Uh yeah, you need him to have that confidence and I I think yeah, I don't know, when looking back at the at at our home summer as well, uh, Jared, I wonder if uh you know, this is all in hindsight obviously, whether we missed the trick because we saw him make his one day debut against India, didn't we? And he just looked like a a different player. I mean he's someone who's gone away and genuinely added layers to his batting, added gears to his batting, and he just looks like a much more confident batter overall uh than he did, you know, when he last played international cricket regularly.
So but that was good. And I think Cooper Conley's half century also uh vital. I know I mean some people who don't follow uh or didn't follow the game too closely will say, Ah just against Zimbabwe and yeah I mean it was a flattish pitch. But I just thought The way he he batted and the uh the tempo that he used as well. He just could be someone we'll be seeing a lot of uh I think in the next t twelve months playing Test Ticket. That's Cooper Conley, but but yeah, Matt Renshaw uh needed a big score to kick off um what could be twelve months that could really uh you know, re energize his international career. And who knows, he might become an all format player for the next five, six years to come.
Why is Renshaw being considered for the opening slot in the South Africa series?
We know that this Australian Brains Trust values white ball runs as a predictor to Red Bull success. And that's where I think Cooper Connolly has the chance across these white ball games to potentially bat his way into that first test team in Durban. So fifty one last night, if he can find a couple more big scores, I reckon that will give them a bit to think about when they put that batting order together for Durban.
A hundred percent. And I think like like you said there, Jared. I mean they have they have always rated him highly. Uh he made that one day hundred uh a few months ago as an opener. Now he's made a fifty uh batting at number three. And and especially I mean yeah, I mean runs against Zimbabwe will count I'm sure, but especially if he can get a big score in one of those three ODIs uh against South Africa, uh next starting next week. then I I I mean I would be a bit surprised if he isn't in the playing eleven now, whether he bats in the top order or they slot him in place of Bo Webster. We'll have to wait and see. And another important thing was to see him bowl. Uh he didn't bowl a lot, but uh you know, he hasn't bowled for a long time.
Um and, you know, looking ahead as well with the the India tour not that far away, really. Uh I think that that's another uh Important step in his progression. A and and just wanted to also say Matt Renschel's batting against Spin.
