Why did the MailChimp email blunder make the hosts feel sick?
Now WNWR. Reports across the globe from What's News With You. With comedians Josh Johnson and Ashley Gavin. And you are reporters in the field. What's news with you?
Well, actually, Josh, I'm gonna get right into it 'cause I'm sick to my stomach. Oh. I have huge news.
Really?
Massive, devastating news. Oh. For I so last night I'm going to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival next week. Okay. This will not come out in time to promote it.
Okay.
So this this news is for the love of the news.
Mm-hmm.
Gosh, I hope this doesn't upset people too much. I worked on a promotional email to send to everybody to let them know that I'm going to Edinburgh French Festival for a couple days. For some reason, I don't know why, but my mail chimp. Somehow. Repl I like changed my billing settings and it replaced that email that I was sending to Europe about the Edinburgh Fringe Fest Festival with a draft of my US tour dates from like over a year ago that I was sending to Americans. And this morning at five in the fucking morning, it emailed 25,000 people tour dates from a year.
Yeah.
Instead of me emailing people in the UK about my Edinburgh show, I just emailed Twenty-five thousand people the wrong information.
Dated,
dated information.
So okay, help me out.
I'm so upset right now. Literally sick to my stomach.
I mean we can we can recover this. This is this is I don't
think so.
Yeah. Okay. So help me out. Was this MailChimp's fault? Because you changed the billing, did something change, and then they didn't tell you and then they
I th I think I know what happened.
Okay.
I think the draft title of the email, I hadn't like changed it yet. And somehow like it didn't do what it normally does to like separate emails and stuff like that.
Old and new. Yeah, I think I
think something got overwritten basically.
Do you delete the old ones. What
is your fucking problem?
I'm no, I'm asking 'cause I'm I'm I'm trying to figure out how this happened. So 'cause you just I'm
not a hundred percent sure.
Okay. Because what you can do is hit up MailChimp and be like, hey, this this is like you're so right
I'm gonna get a credit.
This is this is a huge mistake. I don't know what happened here, but this is insane. And it just sent twenty five thousand people the wrong email. Then you get MailChimp to give you a credit. Then you send an email out and you're like, Hey, uh, you know jokes. That last one was one, and I'm actually gonna be in Edinburgh.
We're gonna have
a great time. Y'all, oh life is funny.
Yeah, I'm definitely gonna send a follow-up email.
Yeah.
I just need to figure out. ha what to title it and how to apologize.
I mean, well, shouldn't it just
Sorry I lied about my tour dates.
Well I mean you didn't lie. They've
already all happened.
Yeah. Hey, blast from the past. Um remember when
Hey, time machine.
Yeah. The 'cause here's the thing.
I went back and I killed Hitler and it accidentally sent too many emails.
I have good news and I have bad news. The bad news is you are never gonna make those dates anyway. The good news is that I'm coming to Edinburgh. You know? Yeah. I mean
I wasn't meaning to send an email to any Americans is the issue. But No,
I know.
I guess what I could do is go in and plug my current tour dates. You know. And be like, didn't mean to send you that email. So sorry. If you're confused, these are my actual tour dates. Also, I'm going to Edinburgh.
Do they buy them through your website? I put
I put all the the draft had all the individual ticket links in it. So now they're gonna be clicking.
Individual ticket links to the clubs and the Okay, gotcha, gotcha.
And some theaters, Josh.
No, I wasn't just saying it's Mr. Arena
over here.
I've actually not done that. Sold
out MSG ten times. Now he thinks I'm he's better than me.
And
he is. He's a better person.
What do you say?
He's a better comedian. He's a better businessman.
O Okay.
I'm Josh. Wha Look at me.
Well
Look at me, Kate. No, you don't
mean it. You don't mean it. You don't mean it.
I do mean it.
You d
you don't send out er erroneous emails. Ernest, erroneous. Ari a runner Your Honor. Here is your crown.
Okay. So what you should do.
