What is the opening recap and main focus of this Raw episode?
It is official. Penta versus Roman Reigns is on the way, but Roman Reigns has a lot of problems. Royce Keys and OTM make their presence known. The judgment day triumphs. Chad Gable gets his next opponent. And so much more. This is the raw recap on WWE Now at WWE and Fanatics Original Production.
If you get sing songgy at the end of a cold open, then it corrects any sort of stumble earlier in the cold open. Welcome.
I thought you blew it there. I was like, come on, Sam. No, bring off the rails early.
Wouldn't have happened. Not to me.
You almost blew it.
Didn't even come close. Very close. Not close whatsoever. And I would know. Very close. I mean, maybe close for me. Very close. But for most people, that's still so far. Removed Sam Roberts, Megan Morant, raw recap on WWE Now, and what a raw to recap. So I mean, it's no surprise. Like people walked in to Penta versus Ray Phoenix. The Lucha brothers collide for the first time in a WWE ring with major Expectations. Huge. Huge. And I think people went into this entire uh tournament with major expectations. But I have to say, based on this match with Penta, based on the match that he had with Dragon Lee, based on his entire performance in the tournament, I think that Ray Phoenix has opened the eyes of the world.
Anyone that didn't realize what a presence Ray Phoenix. Phoenix is has been well they've been learned.
Of course they have. I mean, you can look at any of the matches that he has been a part of in the last three or four weeks. I mean, even go to NXT. I mean, this guy is all over the place every time he delivers.
Every single time, yeah. And and and keeps like feels like he keeps upping his game. He keeps upping his game. And there were real moments and you could hear it in the i in the energy in the audience in Cleveland. I think that you must have felt it watching it. I know I did. That that there were these moments where it was like Ray Phoenix is going to do this. I thought so. I think Penta the minute they announced the brackets. Yes. Penta was a heavy, heavy favorite on this thing. Mm-hmm. But I think that I think That Ray Phoenix defied a lot of expectations building up to the finals. And I think that I mean there were there were multiple moments, even in that one moment at the very end when Ray Phoenix was having Penta bring it on, bring it on.
And then he pops up, hits him with that Hurricane Rana. It was like, is this gonna be the moment? Is this gonna be the moment? Kick out.
Yes. And then the other part for me was when Ray Phoenix landed on his feet.
Right? Unbelievable. Unbelievable. I mean, I thought how about like going through the commentator's desk?
Yeah.
And then still finding a way to kick out. And I love the the way Barrett throughout the match was pointing out like, keep in mind these aren't too there's it's not just Two of the best luchadores of their generation fighting for the chance. to wrestle for the top title in the industry in Mexico City. They also happen to be brothers.
Which makes it so special, so much more personal.
How did the Penta vs. Rey Fenix match shape the No. 1 contender picture for Roman Reigns?
And you know, a lot of times they say, Hey, the the refs are gonna let the boys play tonight, you know? Nobody's gonna be blowing the whistles. And I think In a situation like this, it's like you're my brother. I'm gonna do things to you that nobody else can do because I know you're gonna do them back.
Yes, yes, yeah, absolutely. It's almost like for like for like normal folks who don't know how to do all this stuff. When you get into a fight with your sibling, You'll say things to each other that if anybody else said those things, it would be relationship over forever. Forever. But with your sibling, it's like that was just it was a rough weekend. By Monday, we're good. Yeah. I think that that's a great point that you make, that that's the same thing with Penta and Ray Phoenix. And also there's this thing of this expectation. Both of those guys. want to be the best. And they know better than anybody else that their brother wants to be the best. And I think that that when you have that desire to be the best, you want somebody across the ring from you that's gonna bring out the best in you.
