Mike is delighted to have Kanako Suwa who openly identifies as Queer on his podcast. She is an international educator working in Mike's 'hometown' of Chiang Mai, Thailand. They talk about Chiang Mai in the outset (3:00), and of course jump into the ridiculous question (7:50). Kanako then opens up about her journey discovering that she is Queer and the conflicting elements of coming from a conservative Japanese home (11:20). Mike wants to know how much of it is just universally difficult and how much of it relates uniquely to Japanese culture (16:00), and then what role does being a TCK play in her journey (19:00). At his own expense Mike decides to admit that he's not sure what exactly it means to be 'Queer' (21:30). Kanako graciously spells out her perspective on it and why she confidently chooses it to help define where she stands (23:45).
