TNB Tech Minute: Daimler Truck’s Japan Unit And Foxconn to Set Up Electric Bus Maker
22 Jan 2026
Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Here's your morning TNB Tech Minute for Thursday, January 22nd. I'm Julie Chang for The Wall Street Journal. Foxconn and Mitsubishi Fuso Truck & Bus have agreed to set up a bus company in the second half of this year to develop and sell electric buses in Japan and abroad. Fuso is Daimler Truck Holdings Japan unit.
The company said the collaboration will combine Fuso's expertise in design, development, and manufacturing of buses with Foxconn's Sierra Mission Vehicle Technology and Global Network. The establishment of the new company is subject to shareholder and regulatory approvals. Foxconn, which is best known for assembling Apple's iPhones, has been diversifying its business lines in recent years.
Ubisoft Entertainment shares plunged over 30% in Paris after the Assassin's Creed maker announced a major structural overhaul, game discontinuations, and revised financial targets.
Chapter 2: What collaboration is Foxconn forming in the electric bus market?
As we told you yesterday, the French video game group said it would set up a new structure operating in April centered on five creative houses. Ubisoft lowered its fiscal 2026 net bookings guidance to 1.5 billion euros and expects a 1 billion euro operating loss. And Elon Musk is a surprise late addition to the World Economic Forum agenda. He's set to appear today at 10.30 a.m.
Eastern Time on stage, interviewed by WEF Chair and BlackRock boss Larry Fink. Musk has been a major critic of European politics and a supporter of right-wing movements in the region. His appearance also coincides with an ongoing online flame war with the CEO of Europe's largest airline, Ryanair. That's your TNB Tech Minute. Join us again this afternoon for more.
