Your Greek Word On A Sunday

Episode 194: Phoenix

01 Jan 2023

Description

(Intro & piano music)Happy New Year everyone! Here's a little myth of strength and beauty to kickstart the month. The Ancient Greeks believed there was a creature born way before the gods that held all the knowledge. It had the most beautiful voice and the most amazing colours in its feathers. Some said it was the size of an eagle and others, bigger than an ostrich! But when it sang, the Sun would stop its chariot to listen to the song. There was only one born every five hundred years and when time was up, it would build a nest and set itself on fire, only to reborn and start the cycle again. Its name in ancient Greek meant deep red but the myth can be found in Egypt, Africa and Persia with variations yet, the name remains the same, ΦΟΙΝΙΚΑΣ/ PHOENIXInstagram @yourgreeksunday ,Blue Sky @yourgreeksunday.bsky.socialemail [email protected]
