Your pet business, Your way
Why I trained as an accredited coach and what it means for your pet business
30 Mar 2023
When you’re looking for a pet business coach or mentor, is it important that they are certified? That they’ve followed a training programme, are affiliated with a professional body, and follow a code of ethics? The coaching industry is unregulated, similar to the dog training industry, and anyone can say they are a coach.I know this causes frustration in the pet professional world, as it’s important to follow an industry standard. And it’s why I decided to train to be a coach and studied for the ILM Level 5 Certification in Coaching and Mentoring which I completed in December 2022.I thought qualifying as a coach would simply mean I felt more comfortable describing myself as one, but what happened on the course helped my business evolve. In this podcast I’m sharing why I trained, what I learned and what that means for you as a client or a podcast listener.Key topics and timings in this episode: 0.20 - Why I decided to record an episode about my decision to become a coach.2.06 - Why I started my own pet blog as a platform to tell stories.3.11 - How the blog led to me working with pet businesses.4.50 - How I’m a bit of a Girl Guide and why it was important to have coaching accreditation.6.08 - What coaching is. 6.47 - My definition of coaching and how I blend coaching and mentoring.7.05 - Client example - Sarah Jones.8.44 - What coaching isn’t.10.37 - What I learned when I studied to be a coach and how my approach has changed.12.29 - Providing the bridge or stepping stones to get you to where you want to be.13.34 - Why it’s important to have a supportive structure when you’re trying to grow your business.14.09 - The lightbulb moments that made me step away from focusing solely on press coverage.16.09 - Why I went on a mission to make visibility accessible for people who don’t have a big budget for PR and marketing.16.55 - The Be Bold Bootcamp and how that change the direction of my business.18.42 - Why coaching is now part of all of my offers.19.44 - Bringing coaching into my mini-membership Pets Get Visible.20.40 - What you get inside Pets Get Visible for £20 a month.21.30 - How to get in touch if you’d like to chat about working together.
