Audioscrape vs Otter for an archive of recordings
Otter joins your calls and writes notes. Audioscrape searches the recordings you already have, and the public record, by what was said and who said it.
The two overlap on one job: turning a recording into a transcript with speaker names. Otter is built around the live meeting: its notetaker joins Zoom, Google Meet and Teams from your calendar and writes notes as the call happens. Audioscrape does not join calls. It is built for the archive: interviews, calls, lectures and meetings you already recorded, often long and often many, searched together, from the website or from inside ChatGPT and Claude, next to public podcasts, council meetings and court hearings.
Otter's plans and limits below were checked on 7 November 2026 against otter.ai/pricing and Otter's help center. Plans change; check theirs before you decide.
Where each one wins

|---|---|---|
| Joins live meetings | No. You send recordings after the fact; there is no bot. | Yes. Otter Notetaker joins Zoom, Meet and Teams from your calendar. |
| Recordings you already have | No limit on the number of files. Free plan: up to 3 hours per file; paid plans: no per-file limit. | Imports: 3 in total on Basic, 10 a month on Pro, unlimited on Business. Per conversation: 30 minutes (Basic), 90 minutes (Pro), 4 hours (Business). |
| Hours included and price | Free: 5 hours a month. Starter $35 a month: 20 hours. Pro $129 a month: 100 hours. | Basic (free): 300 minutes. | Same speaker across recordings | Name a voice once; later recordings in the workspace come back with the name. | Tag a speaker once; Otter recognizes them in later conversations. |
| Search | Exact words and semantic search across every recording, filtered by speaker, on every plan. | Keyword search; search by speaker and date on paid plans. |
| Inside ChatGPT and Claude | Search, read and transcribe from the chat: attach a recording in ChatGPT, share a Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive link in Claude. | The Otter MCP server searches and reads meetings already in Otter, from Claude, ChatGPT (web), Cursor and Perplexity. |
| Public recordings | Public podcasts, US council, county board and planning commission meetings, and court hearings, searchable in the same question. | Your own meetings and those shared in your workspace. |
| Files out | Full workspace export (audio, transcripts, metadata), API and MCP. No caption files (SRT, VTT) or Word/PDF export yet. | TXT and MP3 on Basic; DOCX, PDF and SRT captions on paid plans. |
| API | REST API and MCP on every plan, including free. | Public API on Enterprise. |
Pick by the job
Otter fits better if
- you want notes written while the meeting happens, without sending anything afterwards;
- your recordings are mostly calls under four hours, by one team;
- you need caption files or Word and PDF exports;
- price per hour of your own meetings is what decides.
Audioscrape fits better if
- you have a pile of existing recordings, including long ones, to search together;
- you want to send recordings from inside ChatGPT or Claude and ask about all of them later;
- you need your recordings and public podcasts, council meetings or court hearings in one search;
- you want an API or your own agent on the archive without an enterprise contract.
They also work together: Otter captures the meeting, you export the audio from Otter as MP3 and send it to Audioscrape, where it is searchable with everything else.
Try it on your own recordings
The free plan includes 5 hours of transcription a month. Upload a recording, or install Audioscrape in ChatGPT or Claude. How it works end to end: searching hours of your own recordings by what was said and who said it.
