We want to look at two great figures of American history, of world history, Harry S. Truman and his predecessor, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and look at their thinking and their approach to world politics at the time of the Great World Crisis, the Second World War, in the time leading up to it and the time that follows it, and the conclusions they drew and the action they took as a result of those conclusions.

But five years after the 1916 epidemic, Americans were shocked to learn that polio had struck a rising political star from one of the nation's most wealthy and storied families, Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
