President Trump says he's dispatching his special envoy Steve Witkoff to Moscow to meet with President Putin, while sending Army Secretary Dan Driscoll to meet with the Ukrainians to work out the final details.

The Putin call came a day ahead of a White House visit by Volodymyr Zelensky in October and likely dashed the Ukrainian president's hopes for Tomahawk missiles.

Ukrainian officials say Russian drone and missile attacks on Kiev and the surrounding region have killed at least one person and injured dozens.
