I'd like to now call to order our Broward County commissioners meeting this Tuesday, November the 28th at 2023 at 10.10 a.m. We ask that you please rise for the Pledge of Allegiance followed by a moment of silence, which I'll explain momentarily. Saddened by this announcement, on behalf of the family of Margaret Bates, former Lauderhill resident and commissioner, who served 16 years and a Lauderhill resident, of course, she was the president of the Broward Black elected officials, and an awesome lady. Very quiet, but very effective, and she will be missed. Thank you. Longtime member of the South Florida Tuskegee Alumni Club and plantation resident, Her name is Minnie Johnson, also passed away, and we recognize her families.

She was indomitable, constantly out there making sure everybody was counted, and especially in her communities. And I just wanted to also just recognize her and express my condolences to the family.

Yes, I also want to echo Margaret Bates, a dear friend, great community leader. Kenneth Ivory, a long-time educator here in Broward County, passed away this past weekend. And Bobby Glenn, first black firefighter in Broward County. He started his career at the city of Fort Lauderdale. He will be laid to rest this Thursday.

Let's also honor the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve in the armed forces, both here and abroad. and thank them for their service, and also like to recognize always our first responders, our Sheriff's Office and police officers, as well as our firefighters and our paramedics.
