Okay, good morning everybody. This is the Broward County Board of County Commissioners meeting of Tuesday, January twenty-third, twenty twenty-four. And today I will be pinch heading for Mayor Rich. Um she is unable to attend. Um Commissioner Geller, you are on uh gonna be here remote. Are you here? Did I just hear your voice?

Okay, very good. Okay, if everybody please rise for the Pledge of Allegiance. And maybe we could have all the yellow shirts uh start us off on this. Okay. The United States of America is a republic for which stands one nation under God. Yeah. Liberty and help us crawl. Slight slight delay there. We got it though. Okay. Uh please please remain standing, please. Uh ladies and gentlemen, it is customary that we observe a moment of silence in honor of notable persons from our community who have recently passed. Colleagues, does anyone have someone that you would wish to remember during this moment of silence? And we'll start with Mr. McKiss.
I don't everyone in particular, but from my college days I did have the opportunity uh to share a relationship with extra key uh about some as well.

Pinch itter. Okay, thank you. I would like to acknowledge and recognize Doctor Mazella Lennon from Eastgate in the city of Lauderdale Lakes. She was an very active HOA board member for many many years. Also Marcia Elaine Rigg. Baker as a part of this life at the age of seventy-three. She leaves behind a lasting legacy as founder of the Miss Jamaica Florida pageant and Partners for Youth Foundation. Affectionately known as Miss Marcia, her commitment to young girls under her tutelage, especially first and second generation Jamaican Americans, left an indelible mark on Broward County and the South Florida area. Life well lived, Miss Marcia rests in peace. Thank you, Mr. Mayor.
Let us also honor all the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve in our armed forces, both here and abroad, and thank them for their service. If you all please take your seats. I wanna welcome everybody to the meeting. Um Mayor Rich, we are thinking of you and sending good thoughts and hope for a quick recovery. Uh the music today was selected by Commissioner Steve Geller and he selected a live performance from the South Florida Symphony that was absolutely fantastic. Um Mr Mayor,
if I can make some brief remarks on that.

Thank you. Um, and let me just say first I apologize for not being there. I was in Tallahassee last week for Florida Association of Counties and I came down with COVID. Um I am pleased to say I have minor symptoms because I am fully vaccinated and would encourage everybody else to be fully vaccinated so that if you do get it you will have minor symptoms. As everybody knows, um I always when I uh pick the music always bring in live music. Uh today's uh we music selection was a wonderful performance by the South Florida Symphony. Uh that is We Fang Chen as first violin, Kenneth Jim's back and violin. Brendan Wu at Viola and Kevin Jones at Cello. I'm very happy that we were able to do this today as a continuation of what some of you might remember we call the Geller series.
I truly believe you can tell a lot about the soul of a county through its support for cultural activity and programming. We are a wonderfully d culturally diverse county and I hope that everybody has enjoyed this performance. I'd like to give special thanks to Phil Dunlap, the director of Broward Cultural Division and his assistant Ava Stringfellow for helping to coordinate today's performance and it is my understanding that they will be returning now for one final selection. I can ask the um if I can ask the South Florida Symphony. uh the string quartet to return for one final selection, please.
