Okay, good morning everybody. Let's see if we can get started.
Okay, good morning. This is a county board of county commissioners meeting of Thursday, March twenty first, twenty twenty four. And if you would please rise for the Pledge of Allegiance. And today we're gonna have Anthony Nation, who has been with us for forty years, lead us for the Start us off. With allegiance to the flag. That is safe.

Thank you. Please remain standing. Ladies and gentlemen, it is customary that we observe a moment of silence in honor of notable persons from our community who have recently passed. And I'll start with Commissioner McKenzie.
Al Jackson from Dawson River Band. Graduated class of the 8th of May. His father and his parents are pioneers in the Dawson River Band heritage. Al Jackson. Al Jackson.
Thank you, Vice Mayor. I just want to recognize a true champion of their his own community, the Gulto Shemay. We lost Eric Berkowitz on March the twenty fifth and um he was been a board of directors vice president for years, but really kept that Gulf Ocean Mile Association moving through its ups and downs and so uh Eric will be sorely missed in prayers for his family. Thank you. None sir. I'm gonna I'd like to recognize Russ Chard, who was probably every firefighter in this county owes him a debt of gratitude, maybe in the state. He was uh he was a firefighter fire firefighter first and foremost, but he was also the union steward. who really worked on making sure that firefighters had benefits and were protected in many ways.
We had our battles over the years, but I always had a tremendous amount of respect for him, and he'll be missed. Uh, let us also honor all the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve in our armed forces, both here and abroad, and thank them for their service. And let's have a moment of silence, please.
Thank you. Please take your seat. Sorry. Okay, I want to welcome everybody to the meeting. Happy first day of spring. Actually I think it was yesterday 'cause of the leap here. Right? Yeah. Yeah. Um so Mayor Rich Mayor Nan Rich will not be able to be present today. She will be here for the part of the meeting. And in the interim, I did want to talk about the the music today. Good choices. Uh we had uh Commissioner Hazel Rogers, she selected No Worries by D'Angelo and Spice, and I'm Every Woman by Chuck Khan and Strength of a Woman. And good good choices. Yeah. Uh the Angel in Spice will be will be international reggae and world at the World Music Awards. Uh this Friday at Lauder Hill Performing Arts Center in District Nine.
That's pretty big. Yeah. Is that why you picked him? I think I think. Uh before we move on to the to the proclamation, we are going to be recognizing all of the employees who have dedicated 20 or more years to Broward County.
